Certificate - Document, Certificate to Naturalize under the Provisions of an Act of the Governor and Council, Victoria, 20 February 1861
In 1861, August Dhmel of Slatey Creek near Ballarat, applied to be naturalized. He was born in Prussia and arrived by ship from Hamburg in 1849. He was thirty years old and was wishing to purchase land intending to settle for the rest of his life in the Colony of Victoria. This would be granted after taking the Oath before one of the Judges of the Supreme Court. This was taken before Sir Redmond Barry, Knight, in April 1861. A copy of the wording of the oath August Dhmel took hand written on a separate page.Thick cream paper, hand written in ink. Framed certificate or presentation to Ron Scholten when he retired from Malvern depot in 2011 after 32 years of service for the tramways. Titled "Ron Scholten - This is your life", outline's Ron's tramway life as a young enthusiast, work at 332 Flinders St (the Shoe shop), TMSV, MMTB, trip to Germany for Siemens. Printed onto sheets with tram photos top or bottom, has been framed with a black cardboard trimmed for the sheets of paper. The 13th Light Horse Regiment (AIF) was raised at Broadmeadows Victoria in March 1915. Following service at Gallipoli the regiment was broken up with squadrons going to France as Divisional Cavalry Squadrons of 2nd, 4th and 5th Divisions. Throughout the year Melbourne Legacy provided classes for Junior Legatees such as dancing, gymnastics and eurythmics. Their skills were showcased in the Annual Demonstration. The foundation stone for the new church was laid by the then Prime Minister, Mr R G Menzies, in 1953. The tender of 13,300 pounds submitted by Mr R S Grills was accepted in 1952. Work was completed in November 1958. The cost of the carpets was met by the Ladies' Guild and the windows in the children's chapel were given in memory of the Rev T W Leggatt by members of his family.
