This ornamental Sphinx is a memento of the founder of Melbourne Legacy, Lieutenant General Sir Stanley Savige, K.B.E, C.B., D.S.O., M.C., E.D.O The Sphinx was presented to the then Sergeant Stanley Savige as the 24th Battalion Musketry Prize, whilst he was serving in that unit in Egypt, during the First World War.Sir Stanley Savige founded Melbourne Legacy in 1923. This item is significant as it was awarded to him during his war service, prior to the foundation of Legacy. Brass sphinx trophy. The Sphinx is mounted on a plinth, which is decorated in hieroglyphics made of copper and lead. Souvenir - Teaspoon, Perfection Plate, BTPS Teaspoon - tram 14 and 27, mid 1980's
Souvenir Teaspoon featuring Ballarat tram No. 14 in an inset at the top of the tea spoon, and No. 27 in the 1930's colour scheme in the bowl of the teaspoon contained within a plastic case. The teaspoon made by Perfection Plate, of the Vista style or type. The case has yellow plastic base, with clear top. On the rear of the case is the wording "Perfection". The teaspoon is silver plated, with the tram in a picture 15mm diameter on top and oval shaped in the bowl about 25mm long. The teaspoon is marked "Vista" on the rear, with "Perfection Plate Australia" along the handle of the spoon. Tea spoon is 112mm long x 25mm wide. Case is 125mm high, 32mm wide, by 16mm deep. Souvenir - Views of Bendigo, 1902
The Victorian Gold Jubilee Exhibition, held at Bendigo from 13 November 1901 to 14 May 1902. The courts were numbered from one, or had titles like “Machinery”, “Agricultural”, “Naval & Military Court” and “Art”. The female visitors to the Exhibition were able to view exhibits deemed suitable for the fairer sex and located within their own “Women’s Court”. There were exhibits such as “Parasols & Umbrellas”, cotton and haberdashery from Manchester and Staffordshire, “Corsets & Embroideries” from Paris. The most valuable exhibits were mining machinery such as Taylor Horsfield’s £850 “Air Compressor & Rock Borer”. “Bohemian Glassware” brought down from Sydney was valued at £600. The profits from this Exhibition were used to fund the sculpture known as the Gold Monument, which still gazes along Pall Mall (from the McCrae Street end). The Exhibition’s Cash Book shows payments, which totalled £1160, were made to then up and coming sculptor C.D.Richardson. Recently a City of Greater Bendigo staff member used both these volumes to write a detailed report about this monument, for Heritage Victoria.Carol Holsworth Collection: Small book Souvenir, 29 pages plus cover; each page. has a photo of the exhibit. Connelly was named after Thomas Jefferson the famous statesman who wrote much of the American Declaration of Independence in 1776 and became the third United States President. Card - Methodist Order of Knights, 21st Annual Pages Camp Adekate 1987
Commander Gary Osbourne and Deputy Commander Wayne Jolly. The Methodist Order of Knights was the official youth organisation of the Methodist Church of Australasia. It originated in Hurstville, NSW, on the 4th October 1914 by the then Mr and later Rev Alex Bray. Alex Bray was a Sunday School teacher and spoke to his class of the Knights of the Round Table. In 1917 the Order of Knights was officially recognised by the Sunday School Dept of the NSW Methodist Conference. Courts spread thoroughout Australia. In 1927 the High Court of NSW called for designs for a badge and in 1929 the General Conference of the Methodist Church of Australasia recognised the Order as an approved Organisation. In 1938 the Senior Section was organised into Degrees of Sincerity, Service and Sacrifice; the Junior Section into Pages' Degree with advancement to Esquire. In 1954 the Junior Section was reorganised into two groups: Pages 8 to 11 years and Esquires 12 to 15 years. The Knight's Motto: "Live Pure, Speak True, Right Wrong, Follow Christ the King, else wherefore born?" Courts of the Order: General Conference Department of the Christian Education - General Court - Provincial High Court - District Court - Local Court - Senior Court - Intermediate Court - Junior Court . Regalia: All members of the Intermediate and Senior Courts wore regalia consisting of a cloth shield superimposed by a cross of light and dark blue ribbons, and supported by a cloth collar. Esquire and Degree of Sincerity regalia: White collar and white shield. Degree of Service regalia: Green collar and shield. Degree of Sacrifice: Scarlet collar and shield. District Court regalia: Blue collar and gold shield. High Court regalia: Gold collar and purple sheild. General Court regalia: Purple collar and shield.
