This letter is of social and historic significance, being part of a sub-collection of material that provides a snapshot of the type of individuals involved in the Ladies Harbour Lights Guild and the activities carried out by that organisation.A letter hand written in black ink from Colaris Eglinton Street, Moonee Ponds addressed to "My Dearest Girls" and signed "Your loving Mother, A.D."The reverse of the letter has something barely legible written in pencil, believed to be a name. This is Item 12 of 27 items in the Daisy Vickers collection . Daisy Ogier, nee Vickers (1907-1987) was a student and then a teacher at Warrnambool Technical School with her early teaching years there from 1925 to 1936 and in 1949. She became the head mistress from 1950 to 1963 and in 1968. She officially retired in 1976. Daisy Vickers was one of the best loved and dedicated teachers that the school ever had. This six-postcard group is the second in a series of records of items in the collection of Edgar Dawson DCM. Dawson was the Regimental Sergeant Major of 57th Battalion, AIF. The 57th had a company of men largely from Bendigo and Eaglehawk. These postcards are from his personal album. Many are annotated in Dawson's hand with explanatory notes on the subject. Refer to Cat No 893 for his service details. Items originally in album cat. no. 207P Service details available through the NAA. Collection of six black and white postcards: 1. Set of three items associated with a letter from Ken Craven, Secretary of the AETA to John Belot. .1 - White DL size envelope with the five of the Oct 1989 Historic Tramway Stamps with the tram cancellation stamp dated 11 October 1989. Has the "Australia's Historic Tramways" logo in the lower left hand corner, hand addressed to John Belot and the stamp for the stamp show Melbourne 18-22 October 1989 in the bottom right hand corner. On the rear has details of the stamp issue, W.K. Craven's address stamp, and two cancellation stamps - Blackburn 11 Oct. 1989 and Caulfield Post Office stamp. .2 - Handwritten letter from Ken Craven, Secretary of the AETA to John Belot, noting the exhibition at Box Hill and his forthcoming trip to NZ and the Transport Art ticket enclosed. .3 - Transporting Art tram No. 13 ticket No. 0085, dated 17th July 1989, Jenyns tram (Lorraine and Bob). Collection of thirty-nine postcards donated by Jillian Rigby which had been owned by her grandparents, George and Edith Weir, who from c.1917 lived at 84 Princess Street, Kew. The mostly 'mint' postcards were purchased in Victoria and while travelling overseas. The sole dated postcard is dated from 1929. The postcards are numbered sequentially from 2017.0058.01-39. The remainder of the collection donated by Jill Rigby which was once owned by the Weirs of Broken Hill and Kew consist of costumes, costume accessories, photographs, and documents.The postcards in the Weir collection, especially those purchased on a trip or trips to the mother country, i.e. United Kingdom, represent a representative sample of sites that were considered significant to those Australians undertaking a reverse grand tour by member of the erstwhile colonies. Yields information about the appearance of Sturt St following the introduction of electric trams in 1905 and has a strong association with the work of Sovereign Hill and Rose Stereograph Co.Postcard reproduction - sepia coloured - of an ESCo tram near the intersection of Doveton St. and Sturt St. travelling west along the south side of Sturt Street. Photo appears to be taken soon after opening of the electric trams, as the tramway is well paved compared to the rest of the street which shows vehicle tracks etc. Small horse drawn vehicle crossing in front of the photograph. Shows buildings along the north side of Sturt St. and the building at the SE corner of Doveton St. ESCo tram has destination board on the front dash of the tram. Letter - To Rev F C Platts, Vicar, Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Sandridge from parishioners suggesting he remove "to some other sphere of labour", David Thomas, 16 May 1868
This 1868 letter was kept by unknown persons until 100 years later, it was then forwarded to Holy Trinity Secretary F.A.W. ('Skip') SHORT. The persons not signed but listed at closing of the letter were all prominent citizens including various Councillors. A copy of letter in The Age, 16 May 1868, p1 lists 27 parishioners (giving better identification of the people ie first names or initials) plus 73 others. In both the handwritten letter and the printed copy in The Age the names CURTISS and Henry Chas. CURTISS are listed. While this could be the correct spelling we have used Henry Charles CURTIS which is the much more common reference to him in newspapers. He was a surgeon and Sandridge Councillor (8 Aug 1867 - 4 Feb 1873).Small handwritten letter to the vicar of Holy Trinity Rev F.C.
