Floodwaters over Glen Park Bridge 21 October 1953Record of various Shire of Eltham infrastructure works undertaken during the period of 1952-1962 involving bridge and road reconstruction projects, sometimes with Eltham Shire Council Project Reference numbers quoted. It was during this period that a number of significant improvements were made to roads and new bridges constructed within the shire that remain in place as of present day (2022). In many situations, the photos provide a tangible visible record of infrastructure that existed throughout the early days of the Shire. This album depicts events, mostly the many picnics organised with the help of the Ladies Harbour Lights Guild from 1905 to 1910. Page 1: 1905 Page 2: Page 3: Page 4: Page 5: Page 6: This album is significant as it depicts all the work of Reverend Alfred Gurney Goldsmith. According to an article it seems Mrs Goldsmith was often the photographer. The first photographs shows the picnic in Graylings where the reverend invited Ethel Godfrey to create the Ladies Harbour Lights Guild. Gurney Goldsmith was the first reverend to document the life of the Mission using photography, as a marketing tool. Some of the photographs were published in the Jottings. And probably sent to the Head Office on London. It is also interesting as the photographs shows the life of seamen on board their ship, their clothing etc.See descriptions underneath most of the photographs. All the photographs are different numbers written in pencil at the back. This photograph is part of the Caulfield Historical Album 1972. This album was created in approximately 1972 as part of a project by the Caulfield Historical Society to assist in identifying buildings worthy of preservation. The album is related to a Survey the Caulfield Historical Society developed in collaboration with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and Caulfield City Council to identify historic buildings within the City of Caulfield that warranted the protection of a National Trust Classification. Principal photographer thought to be Trevor Hart, member of Caulfield Historical Society. Most photographs were taken between 1966-1972 with a small number of photographs being older and from unknown sources. This album was found with notes and letter from the donor Sadie Wilson a former member of the Ladies Harbour Light Guild and later Flying angels club. An HLG member in the immediate post WW2 period through to the 60s and possibly later, Sadie was recontacted in the early 2000s and participated in a reunion of former HLG members at the Mission. That is likely when she loaned or donated this album to the Mission. Along with her friend Berenice, Sadie also provided reminiscences of the Guild in the documentary "Light Bearers" filmed by Csilla Csongway and Matt Blackwood in 2003.Sadie Wilson's album has assisted with the cross referencing, verification, dating and identification of other images and material in the MTS found Archive. Her reminiscences provide an important rare verbatim insight into the experience of being a member of HLG in the mid 20th C. Diana Lodge was built and operated by Kevin Shoebridge as a family lodge in the 1950s and it has grown and evolved over 60 years to become Diana Alpine Lodge. After Mr Shoebridge moved to Wodonga he leased Diana Lodge to Bob Scott and it also became the Post Office and Telephone Exchange. From early 1967 until about 1975, Diana Lodge was owned and operated by John and Gwyn van Burck. It was then purchased by a group of 12 families operating as Swan Hill Alpine Holdings. Diana Alpine Lodge has operated under several owners and was sold again as recently as 2023.
