It is very complex for its early date.This trial frame is a rare example of a very complex early design which has survived in good condition. Ship's log register or recorder, used to determine the distance a ship travels and the speed it is traveling. It would be fixed to the rail (taffrail) at stern of the ship and attached to the log rotor that would be towed behind the ship. Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive form of keyhole surgery for abdominal and pelvic conditions. Founded in Knittlingen, Germany in 1947 by Georg Wolf, Richard Wolf has since expanded to become a well known international surgical tools manufacturer.Set of laparoscopy forceps. Consists of two circular finger grips on short handles, one handle set at approximately 45 degrees, and the other at 90 degrees, to a long, thin metal shaft. The lower handle is fixed in place, whereas the upper handle is set into the lower handle with a hinge. The movement of the upper handle operates two small pincer-like claws which are attached to the end of the shaft of the instrument. The handles and shaft are coated in a black resin. A short, rounded point approximately 2cm long extends below the handle hinge, perpendicular to the shaft of the instrument. This point contains a slot in the centre which runs most of the length of the point. Plastic join point for handles and rounded is engraved with the text '8383.02' and 'WOLF'. Instrument - Survey Chain, Chesterman, Gunter's Survey Chain
Before metric measurement was introduced land was measured in chains and links. The chain was a precision part of a surveyor's equipment. It required frequent calibration, yet needed to be sturdy enough to be dragged through rough terrain for years. A standard survey chain is 66 feet (or 20.117m) long and made up of 100 links. Each link is 7.92 inches (approximately 201mm) long, measured from the inside of the loop. The handles are for tensioning the chain in use, they are not part of the length of the chain. In pre-metric units, there were 80 chains to 1 mile (equals 1.609km) This surveyor’s chain has an 8-inch link pitch, with markers at 10 link intervals. This metal surveyor’s chain (or Gunter's Chain) has an 8-inch link pitch, with markers at 10 link intervals, and handles at either end. Instrument - Bossi-style uterine dilator
Four-pronged metal surgical instrument. Consists of a handle and a short shaft with a metal cross shaped base section to which four long, curved prongs are attached. Each prong is capped by a detachable foot, consisting of a grooved metal sleeve with a base that forms the shape of a quarter circle. When the device is closed, the four feet line up with each other to form a complete circle at the base. There is large handle with four spokes at the top of the device for opening and closing the instrument, and a circular knob is affixed to the top of the handle to lock it in place when required. André Levret (8 January 1703 in Paris – 22 January 1780) was a French obstetrician who practised medicine in Paris. He was a contemporary of famed English obstetrician William Smellie (1697–1763), and along with Jean-Louis Baudelocque (1745–1810), helped advance the science of obstetrics in 18th century France. Levret is considered by many to be the most influential figure in 18th century French obstetrics. He is known for his work involving breech maneuvers and Caesarean sections. He wrote a number of influential books in the field of obstetrics and attracted students from all over Europe, among them German obstetrician Johann Lukas Boër (1751–1835). He is credited with improving the birth forceps by adding a "pelvic curve" to the instrument. (Wikipedia) Surgical instrument. Instrument consists of two arms, loosely resembling a pair of scissors in shape. The arms are joined by a pin at centre, and each arm has a circular finger grip at top. The end of each arm curves upward and broadens into an elongated teardrop shape, with the end of each arm hollowed out so that only the edges remain. The navigational computer was a circular slide rule used for calculating height and air speed corrections when flying an aircraft. The front cover lifts to reveal a further calculator used to solve vector triangles and plot course alterations. The device was intended to be strapped to a pilot's leg. The instrument was made by White and Gillespie (Melbourne) Pty Ltd c 1940 for the RAAF and used during WW2.Black metal box with silver metal flap top cover affixed with rotating circular rule . Fob (or pocket) watches were developed in Europe in the 16th century. These watches were designed to be carried in a small pocket and attached through the means of a 'fob' which could be a chain or made from a variety of materials such as leather. This pocket watch was manufactured by the Western Clock Co. (Westclox) in the mid 20th century. The company was large and manufactured inexpensive watches with this style being an example of their ‘dollar watches’.This item is of social significance as an example of an inexpensive men's watch available during the mid 20th century.Men's silver pocket watch with a white dial, black arabic numerals and outer minute divisions around the edge. A seconds dial is in the place of the number 6. The face of the pocket watch is made from plastic.
