This Pewter Mug Collection is a set of 32 trophies won by Australian Alpine skiers Ross and Malcolm Milne between 1959 and 1964. Ross and Malcolm grew up on their family's tobacco property in Myrtleford, and began skiing at Falls Creek at an early age. They were both taught by Austrian Sigi Haberzettl, who was chief coach at Falls Creek for 17 years. Ross went on to win the North-Eastern District Ski Association (NEDSA) Junior Championships for three years in a row. In 1961 Ross was a member of the Australian team which competed against New Zealand in the Inter-Dominion Championships. In 1963, he won the Downhill and Alpine Combined title at the Australian Championships, while placing second in the Grand Slalom event. Ross Milne was selected in the Australian team that participated in the 1964 Olympic Winter Games at Innsbruck, Austria. A few days before the opening of the Games, on 25 January 1964, he tragically lost his life when he crashed into a tree during a training run for the Men's Downhill. He was only 19 years of age. Malcolm became a member of the Australian Junior Ski Team to Japan at the age of 14. He won all of the NEDSA children’s races and won the State Title in 1966. Malcolm continued to achieve great success, winning the Australian Championships for the next five years. At the end of 1969 he won Gold in the Val d'Isere FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Downhill, Australia's first Alpine Ski World Cup medal. He was on the Australian National Ski Team for eight years, representing his country at the 1968 and 1972 Olympic Games and the 1966 and 1970 World Championships before turning professional in 1972. Malcolm Milne was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1985. In 2000 he received the Australian Sports Medal for his contribution to skiing. In 2004, Ski & Snowboard Australia granted Milne Life Membership for the contribution he made to the sport by becoming the first World Cup medal winner in Australian winter sports history, and the subsequent impact his performances have had on future athletes. Malcolm Milne was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to skiing in 2016.This item is significant because it is part of a collection which documents the career of two outstanding Australian sportsmen.A pewter mug awarded to Malcolm Milne for Albury Ski Club A grade Men's Giant Slalom in 1963. This medal was made by W.J.Amor Mint, a medal making company from New South Wales. It was made to commemorate both the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Canberra in 1963 and the Royal Visit of 1963. Because of the rivalry between the two major Australian cities, Melbourne and Sydney, it was decided to establish a new capital city somewhere between the two cities. The Australian capital Territory was established in 1913 and the American architect, Walter Burley Griffin, in association with his wife, Marion Mahony Griffin, was chosen to design the new city of Canberra. The first Parliament House was opened in 1927 and Melbourne ceased to be the location of the Federal Parliament meetings.This medal is of interest, mainly because it commemorates the 50th anniversary of the first Parliament House in Canberra and the establishment of Canberra as Australia's capital city.Circular brass medal with ring attached at the top and a split ring through the ring. A colour slide of many cars parked together. They would have been the transport to bring children together for Operation Float in 1963. Operation Float was an event run by Melbourne Legacy to take Junior legatees on an outing. It could have been to naval boats such as HMAS Cerberus or to a Yacht club. It gave the junior legatees the opportunity to see a naval boat in action, spend time on the water or try sailing. Part of a set of slides that are printed on Ektachrome and discoloured to a pink tinge. Was with many other slides taken in the 1950s and 1960s. The slides have been photographed to make digital images and moved to archive quality sleeves. This letter book contains letters, plans and sketch maps dating from 1914 to 1917. It came from the office of John William Crawley Junior, an engineer, architect and surveyor in private practice in Warrnambool and also the engineer for the Shire of Warrnambool from 1895 to 1935. His father, brother and son were also engineers and worked in that capacity or as the Shire Secretary for the Shire of Warrnambool, with the Crawley family recording a total of 132 years of service to the Shire of Warrnambool. This Shire existed from 1863 to 1994. The letter book was passed on the John Crawley’s son, Rolf, engineer for the Shire of Warrnambool from 1935 to 1968. It then came into the possession of Michael Hand who took over the private surveying practice of Rolf Crawley in Warrnambool. The Warrnambool and District Historical Society has acquired the letter book, along with several other Crawley ledgers, from the Michael Hand estate. This letter book is of considerable significance as it contains letters, maps and plans drawn up by John William Crawley, Junior, the engineer for the Shire of Warrnambool for 40 years. It will be very useful for researchers. This is a brown hard cover letter book with leather binding on the edges of the cover and on the spine. The leather is worn away in several places. There is gold lettering on the spine. The book has 750 pages of handwritten letters, maps and plans. The inside cover is of a mottled blue colour. Williamstown Military competitions physical training awarded to A Coy 64th Battalion the winning team Aug 4th 1917Silver cup enscribed with decorative flowers and leaves. The cup has been sebarated from its base, a clean break through the stem. The top of the stem has some small beading and slopes away gently toward the break. The base of the cup, again has beeding and the base flairs away from the stem. The tope of the base is decorated with roughly engraved flames .
