Film, Admission and Discharge Book
Coloured image taken from Ektochrome slide by 313138 Robert K Bell. Image of admissions and discharge book dated 19-10-68 - 26-10-68War has no boundaries and no time clock, it would happen whenever it wanted to. You only ever got short notice of a Dustoff comming in and would have to act swiftly to be ready. sometimes we were so busy with operations that they had to feed us one at a time and out of hot boxes, so you sat just outside the theatre in blood soaked gowns for five minutes whilst downing a meal.ektachrome slide, photograph, 1st australian field hospital -

Ektachrome slide image. Operating theatre photo of doctors operating on a patient. 4 figures plus patient. Photograph taken by Alan Barry PearceThe two outstanding physical aspects of Vung Tau that one has to adjust to are sand and blood. The sand is like fine salt and it eddies around the huts and covers your clothes, possessions and body, but the blood is a worse curse. The smell of blood is a physical sensation that you not only smell but taste. The cloying sweet smell permeates your skin and can't be scrubbed out. Its memory will last the rest of my life.1st australian field hospital, medical -

Painting - oil on linen, Stieg Persson, Duck and quail eggs, Italian herbs, 2015
With a career spanning over 30 years as a painter, Stieg Persson is a well known figure within the Australian and international art world. Persson’s work is celebrated for his distinct (yet eclectic) style, which consists of elements associated with abstraction, figuration and decorative art, as well as the artist’s deeply intellectual interrogation of Australian culture and society. In this work titled, Duck and quail eggs, Italian herbs, Persson reflects on contemporary parallels in changes of taste and the desire for decadence as a political and social drive. Inspired by Brighton’s iconic Church and Bay Streets, the artist addresses the social currency of luxury and high-end cuisine by depicting rococo style blackboards which offer the latest in fine dining, alcohol, exercise classes, skin treatments and lavish linens. Persson is presenting a subtle critique of the contemporary obsession with food; as contemporary society places greater significance on the connoisseurship of eating, it does so in lieu of engagement with culture as it is traditionally conceived (music, theatre, literature and art).oil on linenstieg persson, brighton, signage, graffiti, food, chalkboard, bayside, painting -

Photograph, The Maid of the Mountains / by Harold Fraser-Simson, 1957
Arthur Henry Dear was an employee of the City of Kew, acting as Hall Keeper of the Kew Recreation Hall in Wellington Street, and later the new Kew City Hall in Cotham Road. The Arthur Dear Collection contains memorabilia - tickets, programmes, invitations - as well as his identification badge. Items in the collection dates from the 1940s to the 1960s. The Kew Recreation Hall (Wellington Street) and later the Kew City Hall (Cotham Road) were major locations in suburban Melbourne in the postwar period for civic and private events including theatre productions and exhibitions. The Arthur Dear Collection (in conjunction with the scrapbooks compiled by Marion Tilley) provide a comprehensive snapshot of performing arts in Kew during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. The collection includes valuable data about performances, performers, directors etc., during this period.
