Originally published in a Gold Coast newspaper; article sent to Thelma Lockwood. Charles Tennant was born in Ballarat in 1847 and was a member of the Victorian Police Force for 36 years. He spent some time in Shepparton where he met his future wife Elizabeth Mary Gorey, at a dance. She had just graduated as a trained nurse in the first group ever trained in the Mooroopna Hospital. They later moved to Cobram. Singapore group - Jewish refugees from Vienna, Austria, fled the Nazi occupation in 1938. Settled in Straits Settlements Singapore and Malaya (then British Territory) but arrested in 1939 when WW2 broke out between Germany and Britain.
