Juliana Magan was the seventh child of miner Patrick Magan and his wife Mary (née Flanagan). She was Postmistress at Linton from 1898 until at least 1912. Juliana Magan married Daniel Garvey at St Francis' Catholic Church in Melbourne in 1916. This photo was donated to the Old Lintonians Association, and kept in the Linton library until 1982. Old Lintonians Collection ; No. 140. Little is known about Edward Sullivan. The photograph can be dated to the mid-1880s, as the photographer, F. E. Alice Bryant was born in 1850 and died in 1931. She lived most of her life at Linton and did not marry. Susie Burden, formerly Bryant, née Voutier (1863-1942) married Alice's brother Frank Bryant in 1908. They ran a store in Sussex Street which sold pies, ice-creams, confectionery, tea & coffee etc. Frank Bryant died in 1919 and in 1931 Susie married Philip Burden. Susie Burden died in 1942. Tom Andrews, whose father (also called Tom) was thought to have come to Linton from Jamaica, lived near the Battery Dam. Little is known of his life, other than that he attended the Methodist Church and was "a very respected citizen". In later life he lived at Boort. He is in a photograph of the Linton football team taken c.1915-1920. (Registration number 2019-247 - Mounted photograph 424.) Tom was a member of the Old Lintonian's Association and attended its reunions in the 1930s. Photograph is part of Old Lintonian collection ; No. 124. Irishman John McDonagh and his wife Martha, nee Mathews, arrived at Port Phillip on the ship 'Oliver Lang' in August 1855. They brought with them their first three children: Martha, Jane and Robert, and also two of John McDonagh's nieces: Jane and Isabella McDonagh, whose parents had died in Ireland. The McDonaghs had five more children in Australia. They lived at Linton from the mid-1860s. In the Ballarat Star [newspaper] in 1867, John McDonagh was described as a "sheep and cattle dealer". He was a member of the Woady Yaloak Roads Board, and later a member of the Council of the Shire of Grenville. John McDonagh died at Linton in 1871. An inquest into his sudden and unexpected death (copy in McDonagh file) concluded he died of apoplexy (= stroke). William Wilson was a staunch member of the Linton Methodist congregation and a local preacher. Linton Football Club won the premiership in 1922. Harriett Wilson was the wife of William Wilson, an active member of and preacher with the Linton Methodist congregation. This is one of two photographs of Mrs Wilson in the collection. This one appears to have been taken earlier than the other. The other photograph is Registration no. 480 (Box 14, also Mounted photograph 21), and shows a somewhat older Mrs Wilson, although Mrs Wilson is wearing the same dress in both photographs. An inscription on the back of the photograph says that this photograph was given by Mrs Wilson to F. Bryant on December 16, 1890. Mrs Wilson died in a fire in 1900 and is buried in Linton cemetery. This photograph is believed to date from an early Old Lintonians Association reunion, possibly held in 1914. A note accompanying the photograph says it was taken at Linton Park. Note that this may not be a photograph of an OLA reunion.
