... Presentations, Fortuna Villa, Bendigo. ...These nine photographs of a CO’s Parade were taken on the 6th of December 1995 at the Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo. On this occasion CO LTCOL Duncan Burns presented the Defence Force Service Medal to SSGT Stephen Hill OAM CSM, SGT Stuart Ridge, SGT Peter Peterson and CPL Eric Nicolson for 15 years of efficient remunerated service in the Australian Army.This is a set of nine photographs taken at the CO’s Parade at the Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo, on the 6th of December 1995. This Belt was presented by the City of Essendon on occasion of presentation of the New Colours 25 November 1956Used to carry the Battalions colours Physical Description Green felt sash with red leather lining. Sash had gold trim and an inscribed silver plate on the face. The battalions battle honours are embroidered in spun gold thread on red silk banners in front of a lightly coloured wattle bush. The regimental badge is spun gold/ silver and red silk. This photograph is part of the Caulfield Historical Album 1972. This album was created in approximately 1972 as part of a project by the Caulfield Historical Society to assist in identifying buildings worthy of preservation. The album is related to a Survey the Caulfield Historical Society developed in collaboration with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and Caulfield City Council to identify historic buildings within the City of Caulfield that warranted the protection of a National Trust Classification. Principal photographer thought to be Trevor Hart, member of Caulfield Historical Society. Most photographs were taken between 1966-1972 with a small number of photographs being older and from unknown sources. All photographs are black and white except where stated, with 386 photographs over 198 pages. From Victorian Heritage Database citation for Presentation Convent, 28 Sandham Street https://vhd.heritagecouncil.vic.gov.au/places/35476 (as at 1/11/2020) - HO61 City of Glen Eira The "Presentation Convent" is locally significant as a substantial late Victorian villa residence in Elsternwick and for its more recent role in the educational and spiritual lives of the community. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. The Warrnambool was Launched in 1980 and Decommissionbed in 2005.Designs for new class of patrol boat began in the late 1960s, the HMAS Warrnambool (FCPB204) was launched on 1980 and de commissioned in 2005. 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles Regimental Collection
Wallet, 1941 circa
Geoffrey R Fink volunteered for military service in early 1940. He served initially with 3rd Division A.A.S.C. but was discharged as being in a reserved occupation at the Aircraft Production Commission. He resigned from the Commission and joined the AIF on 28 July 1941 and was allotted to 2/8th Armoured Regiment. He served with the regiment in New Guinea and on return to Australia was transferred to No 41 Landing Craft Company serving out the war in the South Pacific. The 2/8th Armoured Regiment was raised in June 1941 under the command of Lieutenant Colonel W G Hopkins with officers and men selected from the wider AIF in Victoria. The regiment trained in newly arrived M3 General Grant tanks at Puckapunyal before moving north to Singleton, then the Wee Waa plains. The regiment sailed for New Guinea in April 1943 and carried out mobile defence to airfields at Port Moresby, Milne Bay, Dobadura and Popondetta. The regiment returned to Australia in February 1944 and disbanded as an armoured regiment and retrained as Nos 41, 42 and 43 Landing Craft Companies. They returned to the South West pacific serving at Bougainville, Balikpapan, Lae and Wewak.Representative of gifts made to old boys serving in WWII (1939-45) by a school association.
