Administrative record - Exercise Book with details of World Record Marathon Dancing, 1930
This exercise book records the details of Jack Ashworth's attempt to break the world record for marathon dancing in 1930. The event was held in the Oddfellows Hall in Warrnambool from 5.30 a.m. Monday June 23rd to 11.30 p.m. Saturday 28th June 1930 and broke the world record when 138 hours of dancing were completed. Mr Ashworth thus took back the world record which he held on 1929 and later lost. The event was open to the paying public and a prize of one guinea was offered to the lady who danced the longest with Mr Ashworth. The record book shows the signatures of those who verified the continuous dancing at given times throughout the six days. The Oddfellows Hall building in Koroit Street, Warrnambool is still extant and houses local businesses. This item is of particular interest as it contains details of an unusual event in Warrnambool's history. This is an exercise book with a black cloth cover. The pages are edged in red and have ruled blue lines, handwriting in black ink, two newspaper cuttings and a pasted-in poster.jack ashworth, oddfellows hall warrnambool, world record for marathon dancing -

Book, Palliser's American Architecture, 1888
This book contains many late 19th century designs from the office of the American architects Palliser, Palliser and Co. The book was owned by John Crawley. He was the Shire of Warrnambool Engineer from 1895 to his death in 1935. He succeeded his father, also John, beginning work at his father's office in 1885. This book is of antiquarian interest because it has many examples of the designs of the private and public buildings in U.S.A. in the late 19th Century. It is also important because it belonged to John Crawley, a member of the Crawley family, prominent in administrative and technical positions in the Shire of Warrnambool in the 19th and 20th centuries. This is a hard cover book of 104 pages. The cover is green with gold borders and gold lettering. The book has come apart from its binding and the lower part of the spine covering is missing. The book has many black and white illustrations, plans and diagrams and a list of the prices for the designs in the book. The inscription is hand written in black ink. There is some evidence of silverfish damage.J Wm Crawley Junior 12.12. 98crawley family, shire of warrnambool, john william crawley junior -

Administrative record - Haberfield ledgers, early 20th century
These two ledgers, used between 1913 and 1926, come from the Haberfield family. James Haberfield came to the Warrnambool area from England in the mid 19th century and with his wife established a property, 'The Briars' at Dennington, near Warrnambool. Two sons, James Bertram and William, were cartage contractors and cash produce buyers in the first half of the 20th century with the business based in Fairy Street and Farnham ('The Briars'). These two ledgers contain the business dealings of the Haberfield Bros. business in the 1910s and 1920s. These ledgers are of considerable interest as they record the business details of an important early cartage and produce business in Warrnambool. Also the Haberfield family was a prominent one in Warrnambool in the 20th century. The building that contained the produce store run by William Haberfield at the corner of Fairy and Lava Streets still survives..1 This is a ledger with a black cover with a beige leather spine and edges and a red and gold label. The pages are ruled with red and blue lines and contain handwriting in black ink. The spine is a little scuffed. .2 as above but with an alphabetical listing at the front section and with no scuffingCash Book Ledger Haberfield, J.B. .6) Australian Catholic University Ballarat Campus (Aquinas) is set in the historic gardens of Carn Brea, formerly the property of Cornish miner Cyrus Retallack. The property includes a two-storey mansion, which he built as his family home in 1881. Carn Brea, a castle in Cornwall, was built in the 1500s. After the Queen's Church of England Girls' Grammar School acquired the property in 1919, the mansion was renamed Manifold House. Manifold House now accommodates administrative facilities of the campus and staff offices. Newspaper - BENDIGO ADVERTISER DECEMBER 23, 1970 MUSEUM FOR BENDIGO? BENDIGO MUSEUM SOCIETY, 1970
Bendigo Advertiser December 23, 1970 - Museum For Bendigo Proposal. Bendigo Museum Society plans to establish a museum of applied science and natural history in Bendigo, and hopes the City Council will provide a building for such a museum. President Dr. W. Straede and Secretary Mr. E. Wilkinson explain their plan to council. Mr Wilkinson, a geologist with the Mines Department , who formerly worked at the National Museum in Melbourne believes Bendigo would readily support such a museum providing a building was supplied by council for the venture to go ahead. Cr A.E. Galvin asked if the Bendigo Museum Society had any particular building in mind and an expression of interest in the Temperance Hall was raised. Cr. J.C.M. Jeffrey suggested the society apply for an area in the City Hall instead once council occupied its new administrative offices.bendigo, tourism, bendigo museum proposal -
