The Bendigo Chamber of Commerce and Industry was constituted in 1886 with the vision to be the single voice for the business community across greater Bendigo. ‘Be.Bendigo’ is the trading name of the organisation ‘Bendigo Business Council’ which was formed in 2008 as a merger between two Bendigo business organisations: The Bendigo Chamber of Commerce and Central Victorian Business Network (CVBN). One of a number of this type of tram still in working order in Australian tramway museums. Has no motors. Interior one of the few given a paint finish by SEC, others are varnished. Has timber panelled sides.Single truck (4 wheels), drop ends, modified open California combination to closed car, with 4 doors, 2 at either end, longitudinal seats, sliding internal doors, air brakes. - electric motors removed. Text, RVIB Central Auxiliary, 1927 - 2004
" An important decision was made by the board in May last 1927 to form a Central Auxiliary with representatives from each Municipality. It has long been felt that such an Auxiliary would bring the work of the Institute more prominetly under the notice of the public and assist in finding the large sum required each year to carry on. A meeting was accoringly called for the purpose and an auxilirary formed. A strong committee was elected with Mrs James Angus as President. Mr James Angus Vice- President of the Institute was appointed by the Board of Management as Chairman of the Auxiliary." From RVIB Annual Report 1927. This collection includes Annual reports for 1966, 1969 -1970, 1973 - 1974, 1976 - 1977, 1978- 1979 and 1980 - 1981 and an incomplete lists of 10 - 25 years service badge Auxiliary members and Life Governors. The Auxiliary members did not only raise money they also raised awareness of the services provided by RVIB and worked closely with the Public Relations/Fundraising departments. Trudy Westh from Camberwell in Melbourne was recognised with a medal of the Order of Australia OAM . Mrs Westh finished her 18 year term as President of the Council of Auxiliaries in 2004. These meetings were held at the Kooyong office and the minutes include Present, Chair, Apologies, Minutes, Matter arising from minutes, Correspondence, Life governors, Election of nominees, Nominations, Reports from Finance, Welfare, Brighton, Ballarat, Kooyong, Regional Centres, Nursing homes, Blind Members' auxiliary, Social activities, General business, Guest speakers. The AFB Blind Members' Council Annual Reports are also included beginning with June 30th 1977. Some highlights include: 25/5/1976 it was reported that the newly formed Tandem Bicycle Club would be holding their meetings at Kooyong the first Sunday of each month. 30/6/1978 it was reported that in April the Kooyong complex of buildings was named H.M. Lightfoot Centre after the immediate past President of AFB. The Council has been successful in having included in the learner driver book of road rules a question on the significance of the white cane. 30/7/1979 The Chairman, Mr Sitlington, represented Blind Members at the opening of the Ballarat Day Centre, Kelaston, in April. 30/6/1980 it was reported that the BMC welcomed 119 new members during the past twelve months. The Chairman, Mr Sitlington, represented Blind Members at the opening of the new George Vowell Nursing Home and Day Centre. 20/2/1981 a letter from the Chairman of VicRail, Mr Reiher, giving assurance that audio announcements will still be made in conjunction with the computer board. Has the outline of a Z class tram. Introduced after Z class trams started to be used. A small sign providing details of the route number could be placed on the bottom edge. The 1977-78 MMTB Annual report has a photo of one of these then-new signs.Demonstrates the form of tram stop that the MMTB used in Melbourne that trams had to be signaled to stop at. Style introduced following following the use of Z class trams.
