Karl Hilgenfeldt was a German national working in Persia (Iran) in 1930's, interned by British, transported to Australia in 1941, interned Loveday Camp until January 1944, transferred to Camp 1 Tatura and released in late 1946. James Sullivan was a Lieutenant in the Australian Army in WW2, and a casualty from the conflict in New Guinea. Medically unfit for active service he was posted to Camp 4 Internment Camp as a member of the Garrison. Herr Alois Murr, trouble shooter, Lanz Tractors prior to war, was subsequently interned, then released, became a citizen of Australia. This fire truck was made by Rev. Friedrich Schoettler, a Missionary with Lutheran Mission at Ammele and Wanjma in New Guinea. He fled to Australia, from the Japanese, during WW2, being a German national. He was interned at Tatura, Victoria, where the internees made toys to sell for spending money. This truck was given to me, Don Kuhne, by my parents for Christmas about 1944. I am surprised that it lasted as long. My brothers used it. We towed it around the farm behind push bikes, etc. In the early 1960's I worked with Lutheran Mission New Guinea and had the pleasure of knowing Rev. The booklet prepared and printed by the German internees held in Camp 1, Tatura. The reproduction of the booklet was carried out on equipment in the office of the Camp Garrison, and copies of the booklet were made available to those internees within the camp and who were considered sympathetic to the German cause.The booklet tells the story of the internment of German Nationals in Australia from the German point of view. It also lists the names, internment number, dates of birth and capture, and the State where the capture took place. It also illustrate the fact that the Australian Authorities were willing to assist in the production of the booklet through the use of their office equipment.65 page booklet consisting of folded foolscap sheets with hand printed and printed material.

Creator Walter Kiessling was interned in September 1939, leaving his pregnant wife, Rosa, alone in Melbourne. After visiting Walter in Dhurringile Interment Camp and then Camp 1, wife Rosa then appealed to Camp 1 Commandant Major Schrader for permission to have Walter visit her and the baby in hospital under guard escort. Soon after, permission was given to take the baby to Camp 1 for a christening with a Lutheran Pastor. The envelope was sent to Mr S. Asboth at Camp 1 Tatura, dated 25 July 1946. Stefan Asboth was an internee in Camp 1. Stefan was an engineer and was working in Persia when the war broke out.
