Leather display case holding scalebuoys belonged to Bill Ashman, who was a salesperson for the Abbott company. A Scalebuoy is a handheld water treatment device, invented by Hartley Abbott and patented under the name of the Bendigo Electronic Company, designed to prevent scale buildup in water vessels and boilers by supposedly "softening" the water.
