Mt Beauty High School commenced in 1953 as a Higher Elementary school as the need for a secondary college grew with the increase in population due to the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. It became the Mt Beauty High School in 1964.Historical: Education in Mt Beauty commenced relatively late so there was less of a tradition. The decision to adopt a uniform is of interest to compare it with other schools and the times.Girls winter school uniform consisting of - Blazer x4 See KVHS 0019 Dark green blazer made from pure wool flannel. It has 3 pockets - 2 lower ones on each side and on the left pocket at chest height is the cloth badge 'Mt Beauty' at the top, colored scene of mountains and river in the middle and 'High School' at the bottom.... This blouse shows excellent workmanship and is very decorative. It is not every-day-wear, but would have been worn for special occasions.This blouse is an example of the needlework skills of women in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.A woman's black blouse or top made of shot silk and with panels of black lace. It has long sleeves which are trimmed with lace at the wrist. Down the front of the garment is a pleated panel with the fine pleats travelling cross-ways. Under-bodices were first made of silk, though cotton was the fabric of most underwear from the second half of the century. These bodices were worn to protect against wear and soiling but more often for modesty. Undergarments such as this item were seen as essential to wear under blouses. The Percy Uebergang family lived at Tooram Park, Allansford from 1912 until 1992. Percy and Myrtle Uebergang's children were twins, Ray and Joyce born in 1926 who lived at Tooram Park until their deaths, Ray in 1986 and Joyce in 1992. Neither Ray nor Joyce married and following the death of her brother Joyce set up the Ray and Joyce Uebergang Foundation which supports the local community. This photograph is part of the collection of items given into the care of the Cheese World Museum. Uebergang catalogue No.A220 Four generations of the Faragher family -great grandmother Jane Trigg (seated right), grandmother Sarah Wright (seated left), mother Elsie Faragher (standing at back) and baby Stan Faragher (seated centre front). Elsie Wright is Myrtle Uebergang's sister. There are two copies of the photograph -one a loose mounted copy (pictured), the other was framed. The wooden frame cost 3/9. Alex Wright was the brother ofFrank Wright who was a renown resident of Smeaton. He lived at Laura Villa, and attended Smeaton State School. His father William was a gold miner and his mother's name was Sarah. Their family won many singing and instrumental awards. Frank was tutored by Percy Code and became the Australian Open Cornet Champion by the age of eighteen. A year later, Frank conducted the City of Ballarat Band, and later the Ballarat Soldiers’ Memorial Band. He formed the Frank Wright Frisco Band and Frank Wright and his Coliseum Orchestra. These bands won many South Street awards, and Frank as conductor won many awards in the Australian Band Championship contest. In 1933 Frank Wright sailed to England to conduct the famous St Hilda’s Band and was later appointed Musical Director of the London County Council, where he organized many amazing concerts in parks, in and around the London district. He was made Professor of Brass and Military Band Scoring and conducted at the Guildhall of Music and Drama. Frank was often invited to adjudicate Brass Band Championships around Europe, in Australia, including South Street and in New Zealand. The photograph is pre 1914-18. It is showing Cheltenham Market Gardeners having a picnic. The Market Gardeners gave Moorabbin it's first industry, which was to prove the most durable and resilient. The ladies and gentlemen are dressed in very fine clothes. All of the men are wearing suits with waistcoats and white shirts with neck ties. One man has a Boater hat , 4 have Bowler hats and 5 have Stetson hats. 5 men are standing and 4 men are kneeling or sitting with the ladies. The ladies are seated on the ground around a table runner on which items of food are seen. Most of the ladies are wearing white dresses, one lady has a dark coloured skirt with a white frilly blouse, and all have large wide brimmed fashionably decorated hats . Black long-sleeved ladies’ silk blouse. High round neckline at front with V shaped lace insert from throat to bust line. Stand up lace and net collar. Top edge of collar is trimmed with pink ribbon piping and gathered cream coloured lace. There are three strips of brown tape attached vertically to the collar at each shoulder and front RHS of collar to hold plastic strips to support the collar in upright position. One piece of plastic still in place. On either side of centre front are vertical panels of pintucks with knife pleats on either side facing inwards. There are three small pink decorative buttons (1 cm) below the throat and another group of three buttons 10 cm below the first group. The top has a back opening fastened with 10 press studs. The back has two vertical panels of pintucks and knife pleats. The long sleeves have cuffs at the wrist (5 cm) with U-shaped split on upper side. Each cuff has three decorative pink buttons on one side of the U-shaped split. The lower edge of each cuff is trimmed with black lace (5 - 6 cm) that falls over the wrist. The local 'philharmonic orchestra/band' playing at a civic/national day function in the 1950s in Vathi, Ithaca. Music plays an important role in many aspects of life, both civic and social, on the island. During the summer months locals and tourists enjoy a variety of musical and cultural events.Founded in 1904, the Ithaki Philharmonic Orchestra is the oldest musical group on the island. The band is a private, non-profit entity and its goal is to offer free musical training to the young of the region and provide them with a broader musical education. The philharmonic orchestra performs concerts and participates in a range of educational, municipal, religious and national day events. Clothing - WOMAN'S BLACK WAIST LENGTH LONG SLEEVED SILK BLOUSE
Clothing. Woman's black waist length long sleeved silk blouse. Wide scooped neckline with fold over collar (10 cm) with rounded corners. Kimono cut sleeves with geometric pattern of black beading at wrist (5 cm wide). Front of bodice has crossover section with fastening across left shoulder. Front section has 30 cm panel of black beading geometric pattern. Waist is gathered by a cotton tape casing 2.5 cm above the hem. The front opening is on the LHS from shoulder to waist with eight metal hooks and cotton loops. Opening across the left shoulder is fastened with four hooks and loops and one press-stud. Clothing - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: SILK AND NET BLOUSE, Late 1800's early 1900's
Clothing. Cream cotton net, woven with a goemetric pattern of filligree diamonds and tiny squares. The garment is fully lined with the most delicate, and sheer cream silk. A peplum ettect 7 cms deep, is finished with 9.5 cm deep peak at the centre front. Two metal hooks, and stitched eyes are the only fasteners, and are located at the waistline on the peplum seam. The curved front bodice is edged with a 3.5 cm deep frill of cream net, which is finished at the outer edge with two rows of stitching in a heavier weight thread. The front bodices are gathered at the centre front to the peplum. The long sleeves are finished at the wrist, with a double frill of plain tulle, also edged with a double row of stitching, in a heavier thread.costume, female, silk and net blouse -

Clothing - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: BLOUSE, Late 1870's - 1880's
Clothing. A concealed full length back opening reveals five tiny covered buttons, 7 mm in diameter and five hand-stitched button holes. This opening is bordered by two groups of five very fine pin tucks with a 3 cm spacing between the two groups. The blouse is made from very fine Swiss lawn cotton fabric, and is very soft to the feel. The front has a broad panel thirty cm wide of exquisite pintucks, crochet, lace and embroidery. The embroidery is white on white, and features flowers and leaves in a curved pattern. A crochet panel below the high neckline is 4 cm x 10 cms and is peaked at the lower edge. This is bordered by 1.5 cm wide cotton lace, and horizontal pintucks. Two panels, one on either side of three pintucks, 1.5 cm panel of lace, and then the central panel of embroidery, pintucks, lace, and crochet. Five pintucks, 1.5 cm panel of lace and five more pintucks run the length of the short sleeves. Sleeves are puffed, and gathered at the shoulder, and at the 1.5 cm deep cuff, which is also pintucked. A 1.5 cm deep 'stand-up' collar, spoke-stitched to the garment, as are the sleeves and shoulder seams. Front hemline is curved.
