Just fancy a shell bursting among this crowd. They often do. The Turks have got a gun they train on this place alone. I have seen seventeen knocked one day with one shell. They can't fire too often as they are short of ammunition, they would get thousands here I suppose. The gun that does fire here has killed more than any other gun in the war. A photo of a former junior legatee participating in a boys basketball class. Ron Barassi was a successful AFL footballer at the time. Ron was a a junior legatee after his father Ron Barassi Snr was killed at Tobruk in World War II. He has participated in many Legacy events over many years. This was an early record of his involvement at a young age. One of the boys was Ian Paltridge on the far left (1955/56?) - from a note added to the photo at some stage. A copy of a speech given by Legatee Bert Davis at Glenburn Hall on Anzac Day 2005. It tells the story of his grandfather Lieutenant William Edwin Davis who served in the Boer War and then was killed on Gallipoli. Also William's son, who also enlisted in the first World War in France and married a Welsh nurse and returned to Australia and were Bert's parents. There was also a story of William's widow Mrs Maud Davis who was involved with the War Widows Guild and was one to the ladies approached by the founding Legatees when they wanted to established Boys Classes in the 1920s.
