E H "Ted" Jenkins was the paraplegic son of Harry Jenkins who bought Churchill Island in 1936 as an interest for Ted. Ted lived on Churchill Island at various times with his nurse Sr Margaret "Jimmy" Campbell, e.g. second world war when they ran a shorthorn dairy farm, and at other times lived in their home in Melbourne. He moved freely around the island in a cart pulled by a Shetland pony and had strong arms for shooting and fishing. The reel suggests he went shark fishing or deer water fishing. This was presented to Mr A.D. Munro by the residents of Orbost on his retirement as postmaster in 1888. In 1883 the mail terminus was at Newmerella. In July 1883 it was extended to the north side of the river and Archie Munroe became Acting Post Master. He was Post Master until 1885 when the telegraph line came to Orbost.Archie Munro was a well-known Orbost identity who first operated a boot shop in Cameron's barn. It may also be associated with Palmer's Chemist in Lydiard Street Ballarat. Saved from the ship Speke which ran aground on the coast of Phillip Island on the 22nd of February 1906. The ships captain gave the compass box to the Harris family.The Speke was an all steel ship built in Wales in 1891. She was delivering wheat to Geelong and confused a bushfire in Cowes for navigation lights.
