Black fragile small thin notebook of handwritten recipes belonging to Lucy Sebire in the late 1800's. The covers are very worn and the pages are torn, faded stained and heavily tanned. It is tied together with string at the top left hand corner. Inside the front cover is a calendar printed for 1889 and 1890. This is a child's sticker scrapbook album with many beautiful coloured stickers pasted in and includes several loose unused ones. Being 148 years old is impressive that it still exists with the wonderful stickers in excellent condition.
An antique damaged dark green Album used as a scrapbook for many small coloured cut out stickers of flowers, children, animals and birds. The front cover has Album printed diagonally across it in gold lettering with gold decorations of flowers in the corners a well as a lined pattern around the edges. The seven stories in this book are told by former residents of Burwood Boys' Home, some of whom arrived there from other residential institutions. The stories provide a window into an earlier era of Melbourne's social history, from the 1930's to the 1970's. These are stories of resilience, good humour and positivity, but also of abandonment, confusion and fear as families made hard decisions. They vary in length, and include one longer extract from an autobiographical work by Hector Davis OAM, who arrived at Burwood, aged eight in 1934.
