Booklet, City of Warrnambool 1961, 1961
... . warrnambool city council history of warrnambool florence collins ...This book has been produced by the Warrnambool City Council and gives details on the activities of the Council in 1961, the public facilities available in the city and the organizations and major industries operating in the City at that time. This book is important because it contains valuable historical information about the City of Warrnambool in 1961. This includes the names and contact information on those who were involved in the administration of many clubs and community organizations at that time. The book is also of significance as it belonged to Florence Collins, a noted educator in the city and the first female Warrnambool City Councillor. This is a soft-covered booklet bound with white plastic-covered metal rings in two sections. The pages are not numbered. The cover is cream and it is a little stained and rubbed. Plate, City of Warrnambool, Late 20th century
... . warrnambool city council history of warrnambool ‘City of Warrnambool ...This plate would have been part of a crockery set used by the Warrnambool City Council at civic functions and receptions. It probably dates from the late 20th century. It was made by Westminster China which was a business established by Stanley Rogers and Sons Limited in Cheltenham, Melbourne in 1954. In 1977 the business was moved to Sandringham, Melbourne and by the 1990s it was mainly producing items for the hospitality sector. Warrnambool became a Municipality in 1865, a Borough in 1863, a Town in 1883 and a City in 1918. The seal and motto, ‘By These We Flourish’ were designed and drafted by John Macdonald, an original member of the Municipal Council in 1856 and the first Head Master of Warrnambool’s National School in 1850. This plate is of interest as one of a set used by the Warrnambool City Council in the late 20th century. This is a white china plate, slightly bowl-shaped, with a gold strip around the rim. The gold is partly fading. The plate has the City of Warrnambool crest in blue and yellow on one outer edge of the plate. ‘City of Warrnambool Victoria’ ‘By These We Flourish’ warrnambool city council, history of warrnambool -

Document, Service of Thanksgiving, 1918
... by the Mayor of Warrnambool and the City Councillors and Council ...This is a programme of the Warrnambool City Council Civic & Thanksgiving Official Service on November 1918. The service was held in the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens, conducted by the Ministers of the Churches in Warrnambool and led by the combined choirs of the churches. It was a public occasion held to offer thanksgiving for the end of World War One in November 1918. One of the hymns sung had the opening lines: ‘O God of Love, O King of Peace/Make wars throughout the world to cease’. The service was attended by the Mayor of Warrnambool and the City Councillors and Council employees. World War One was a signal event in the history of Warrnanmbool (as it was for all places in Australia) with so many young men volunteering for active service and so many dying overseas. This programme is of great interest as it records an important occasion in Warrnambool – the end of World War One and the official service of thanksgiving that commemorated this happening. This is a programme for the Warrnambool City Council Civic & Thanksgiving Official Service in November 1918. It is a sheet of buff-coloured paper folded in two to make four pages. There is blue printed material on three of the pages. The front page has the City of Warrnambool crest printed in blue with blue edging on the page and some ornamental patterns. The inside pages has a blue sketch of the flags of Australia and Britain. The programme is faded and creased and a little blotched.warrnambool city council, history of warrnambool, world war one -
