The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. This plaque recognises the Wycheproof servicemen from State School No1757 who served in the 1914-1919 War. The actual large Honour Roll hangs in the old historic Wycheproof State School building.This Honour Roll contributes to and is part of the nation's collection of War Records; it is unique,believed to be the only one of its kind.PHOTO of large Wycheproof School Honour Roll WW1, on wall at the former Wycheproof S.S. No.1757 building - now the Mount Wycheproof Museum. The plaque of solid wood has cylindrical wooden pillars each side of the 55 gold inscribed names - 12 FALLEN servicemen and marked with a +. Raised wooden carved grapes and leaves adorn the top edge. In the centre, on the scroll are dedication words in Honour of the Brave Men From Wycheproof State School. A small wooden cupboard is attached underneath for War Service Records. This photo is in a display Book registered number 02089 at the Court House. Scrap Book, Scrap book of Mr. J.K. Turnbull, Ringwood's first Station Master, containing correspondence, newspaper clippings, obituaries and personal memorabilia c.1890-1913, c. 1890 - 1913
Mr J.K. Turnbulls own scrap book lent by his son to Mr McCaskill. Alan Carter got it from Mr McCaskill to return but the son died and Alan Carter gave it to the Historical Society. Mr Turnbull was Ringwood's first Station Master and a well liked person in the community.Mr J.K. Turnbulls own scrap book. Large blue cardboard covers with black and red embossing and 'Scraps' on front. Blue cloth spine. No pages held by spine - five with cuttings from papers pasted on to them; three handwritten letters; several single cuttings.; 1. Five pages of newspaper cuttings pasted to page.; 2. Post Office Telegraphs 14-Jan-1891; 3. Small ad. - Frank Lowe - is running a waggonette to meet every train - stables - 'Coach and Horses Hotel' 12-Jan-1913; 4. Mr Turnbull at Healesville; a favourite Returns; two cuttings with same story.; 5. Photocopy of the 'Programme of Dances for the Opening of the Ringwood Goods Shed' Monday 28 December 1887.; 6. Handwritten in pencil - New Goods Shed 28/11/1887. Opening ceremony 2-Dec-1887 - not very legible - 4 pages (15 x 10cm); 7. Two letters to Mr Turnbull from John Ross - 17-Jan-1891; 8. 1953 was declared the Marian Year and the Ballarat City oval saw a crowd of 30,000 gather for a Rosary Crusade to round out the year of celebrations. The occasion was attended by the Mayor Cr Cutts and other dignitaries and featured in Diocesan Journal Light in February 1954.Fatima Statue visit pencilled on back of image. -
