Photograph shows the cafe and adjacent buildings on the area that was enclosed by Esplanade tram Loop or Luna Park loop. Known as "Candy Corner" on MMTB drawings and locally. The reference page 9 gives the background to the site and its use. The café was designed by Carlo Catani, who is also remembered as the landscape designer for other parts of St Kilda including Catani Gardens. It is now used by a McDonalds store. In front of the building is a board advertising or promoting World War 2 war-saving schemes for St Kilda streets. MEYER COLLECTION - FALLS CREEK PHOTOS In 1947 a determined group of like-minded State Electricity Commission (SEC) staff including Ray Meyer, the chief surveyor of the Kiewa Hydro-Electric Scheme, had a common interest that revolved around the skiing potential of the snow-covered high plains which included what is now the resort of Falls Creek. The six SEC employees, Toni St Elmo, Ray Meyer, Jack Minogue, Lloyd Dunn, Adrian Ruffenacht and Dave Gibson (together with their families) banded together to secretly build a 'hut' that was the first ski lodge at Falls Creek. Using a road built in 1930s to gain access to Falls Creek, their hut project was carried out in secret as efforts by other skiers were blocked by H.H.C. Williams – the engineer in charge of the Hydro Scheme. In 1946 Ray Meyer made a trip to the Lands Office in Melbourne. He came away with a 99-year lease on three acres that was ideally suited for a hut designed by Lloyd Dunn. Adrian Ruffenacht (Design Engineer for the KHS) had suggested where the group should build because of easy access to a spring for water. Much of the building material required was scavenged from derelict huts on the high plains. Due to the need for secrecy, the determined group worked on the hut in the evenings and weekends to avoid detection. During the building period the group had met at Echidna Rock (now known as Eagle Rock) where Skippy St Elmo announced, "This is my favourite ‘Skyline’.” And so the first lodge in the area at Falls Creek Ski Resort came into existence. With the development of the International Poma in the 1970s, the Skyline Lodge, which was sited between the ski-lift’s pole one and pole two, was demolished. However, the legacy of Ray Meyer, Toni St Elmo, Jack Minogue, Lloyd Dunn, Adrian Ruffenacht and Dave Gibson and Skyline lives on in the vibrant atmosphere of Falls Creek Resort. This booklet has been produced to advertise the tours offered by the Gibson’s Bus Services in Warrnambool in the late 1930s or early 1940s. The office of this bus service was situated in the Commercial Bank Buildings in Koroit Street, Warrnambool. This booklet is of interest because it shows the type of bus tours offered to Warrnambool people in the late 1930s and early 1940s. The tours were to Canberra and Sydney, Mount Gambier, Adelaide, Geelong, Ballarat, the Great Ocean Road and the Grampians. The buses could take 11 to 20 passengers. This is a soft cover booklet of eight pages produced as an advertising feature for Gibson’s Bus Services of Warrnambool. The cover has a yellow background with green lines on the edges. There is a sepia-coloured photograph on the front cover of a river scene encased in the shape of a bus and the back cover has three photographs of the buses used by the company. The pages have information on Gibson’s Scenic Tours, Gibson’s Travel Club and the extended and day tours offered by the company. The booklet includes many black and white photographs of places visited on the tours. Although undated, this plan is probably from the late 1940s or early 1950s. Around this time Port Melbourne Council were looking to built a basketball court in Lagoon reserve, and shelters and a senior citizen's clubhouse in Edwards Park. PMHPS does to believe the basketball court shown in the plan was built but the Port Melbourne Senior Citizens and Trugo Club is at the location shown on the plan. A shelter is in a similar location to the one on the plan. A children's playground existed in that location shown in a photograph from the 1930s.
