Trophy was won at the Geelong Fire Brigade Jubilee in 1904. This would have been a demonstartion to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Geelong brigade which formed in 1854Silver shield mounted on a wooden backing board. Trophy was won by Ballarat Fire Brigade at the Geelong Fire Brigade Jubilee in 1904. Trophy was donated by Merrywetather & sons Lim. Trophy has a Lion at the top centre, angels on both the left and right sides. In the centre is a horse drawn fire appliance (assumed a Merryweather steam pumper) drawn by 2 horses through what appears to be a town square. There are 3 fireman standing on the front of the appliance and 1 on the rear. There are various other branches, leaves etc. that make up the remainder of the decorations on the sheild. The book was collated by Debbie Hall. Orbost Fire brigade was founded in 1919. The first captain was George Hodgson, assisted by Lieutenant Reg Macalister, Secretary J.F.McCoy and fifteen members. .As there was no fire station the ree l ( a cast off fro m the Bairnsdale Brigade ) w as kep t in the shed at the back of the Council Chambers until the present Station was built in 1922 in its present location in Gladstone Street, Orbost. This book is a written record of the first one hundred years of the Orbost Fire Brigade.Two copies of a paperback book with a white cover and red print. On the cover is a photo of a fire truck in a rectangular frame. The book was produced for the 75th Anniversary of Orbost Fire Brigade 1919-1994. This jacket was part of the working uniform of the Warrnambool Urban Fire Brigade in the mid 20th century. It belonged to John (Jack) Sizeland, a member of the Fire Brigade for over 37 years. He retired in 1977. Prompted by a fire at the Flying Buck Hotel in Liebig Street the Warrnambool Fire Brigade was established in the mid 1860s. It has been successful in Victorian Fire Brigade Championships over the years, especially in the 19th century. It is currently situated in Mortlake Road. This jacket is of interest as an example of the clothing worn by firefighters in Victoria in the mid 20th century. It is also of interest because it was worn by Jack Sizeland, a local firefighter for over 37 years. This is a black double-breasted cloth jacket with six brass buttons down the front and two brass buttons on the lapels. The buttons are impressed with a shield and the words ‘Country Fire Authority Victoria’. There are two brass clips on the side to hold a belt. There are two black and red cloth attachments at the top of each sleeve (‘Warrnambool Urban Fire Brigade’). There is some black cloth lining inside the garment across the shoulders. Trophy was won at the Geelong Fire Brigade Jubilee in 1904. The building in the front of the picture has a carraige ladder raised up against it with 2 firemen climbing the ladder. There are various other branches, leaves etc. that make up the remainder of the decorations on the sheild. 1879 - The Argus, Friday 11 July 1879, page 4. The Kew Borough Council having decided to initiate a fire brigade, invited volunteers to send in their names. About 40 complied with the invitation and met at the Town-hall to choose 12 of their number to form the brigade. The 12 elected then chose their officers as follows :— Councillor Gray, captain ; Mr. Thomas Greenhill, foreman ; and Mr. H. Loxton, secretary. The brigade decided to apply to the council for uniforms and a bell; and after adopting rules for their guidance the meeting separated. The brigade now possesses a reel and 500ft. of hose, and a shed is being erected in Little Walpole-street for a station. The council have applied for six additional fireplugs in the Main-road, so that the brigade may now be considered fairly established. 1886 - Globe (Sydney), Tuesday 16 March 1886, page 8 The Kew Fire Brigade, which obtained the pride of place at the recent fire brigades' demonstration, at Sandhurst, was met on their return at Spencer-street Railway Station by the Mayor and Councillors of that suburb, and were subsequently entertained at the Greyhound Hotel. 1886 - South Bourke and Mornington Journal, Wednesday 17 March 1886, page 2 It may be, deemed remarkable, but nevertheless a fact, 'that the Kew Fire Brigade, comparatively a new one, has gained premier place at the recent contest of brigades held at Ballarat, winning two first prizes and two second. On returning they were met at the station and escorted to Kew, preceded by the Borough banner. Certificate awarded to the Kew Volunteer Fire Brigade as an award for winning 'the best average time' in competition at Sandhurst. Surrounding the team's photo are a series of individual oval named portraits of the team. This framed version of the certificate, (there are two in the collection) is less faded than the framed version.The photograph without the mount (2016.0097a) has been digitally enhanced. The Mt Beauty Fire Brigade commenced under the State Electricity Commission of Victoria in 1948. It was a (Country Fire Authority) C.F.A. Brigade from December 1961 and later an Urban Fire Brigade. The Fire Brigade and its Ladies Auxillary provided many community activities as well as protecting the population.The State Electricity Commission of Victoria established the Mt Beauty Fire Brigade during the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. Its Ladies Auxillary was very active and involved, serving the community by raising money for the brigade and providing social occasions such as 'Deb' balls.One set of two pages and one set of eleven pages of the History of the Mt Beauty Fire Brigade and Mt Beauty Urban Fire Brigade respectively.
