Often used in car racing and piloting aeroplanes, the owner of this watch – Dr Harry Jenkins – was enthusiastically involved in both. Manufactured by Melbourne watchmaking company, T Gaunt & Co and was founded by Thomas Gaunt in 1856. The Churchill Dairy Shorthorn Stud was owned by Dr Harry Jenkins during his private ownership of Churchill Island, who also bred and managed the livestock for sale within this document. Jenkins was an avid, amateur racing car driver and motorcycle rider and had a dental practice in Collins Street Melbourne. He owned Churchill Island from 1936 to 1963 and bequeathed the island to Margaret Campbell on his death. The Nillumbik Festival was introduced as a replacement for the Eltham Festival following the disbandment of Eltham Shire Council in December 1994 and the creation of Nillumbik Shire Council. It was an attempt to draw away from Eltham and be more inclusive of the wider communities in Nillumbik. However other local communities had their own festivals and the concept of a Nillumbik Festival was never widely accepted by the community and it shortly reverted back to the Eltham Fesitval in 1997.
