Clothing - Wedding Dress, 1966
Dress made by Ludmilla Jenkins at her shop in North Road, Ormond. The dress was made for Rosalie Schwerkolt for her marriage to Marvin Bruce Whalen at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Gardiner, Victoria on Wednesday 1st June, 1966 and afterwards at Butleigh Wootton, 867 Glenferrie Road, Kew. Rosalie was married from 33 Straughton Road, Glen Iris.Rosalie is the great granddaughter of Johann August Schwerkolt, pioneer of Mitcham.1966 wedding dress of silk, velvet in Winter White colour lined in silk voile. The dress is a princess line with round crew neck. Sleeves are narrow and taper to a point using a dart and with a zipper fastening on seam. The arm seam also features three pleats at the inside of the elbow crease. The back has a zipper closing and princess line seams. The gown is full length at the front and at the back extends to a point for a 40cm train using an insert gore in the princess seam. Worn as part of her trousseau by Rosalie Whalen on her honeymoon after her wedding on 1st June 1966 at St Andrews Presbyterian Church, Gardiner, Vic.|Bought at a shop at the top of Collins Street 'The Paris End'.Rosalie is the great great grand-daughter of Johann August Schwerkolt, pioneer of Mitcham.1. 1966 white sleeveless batiste nightgown with salmon pink silk Rouleau ties on shoulders. The armholes and neckline are edged with the salmon silk. 2. The elbow-length sleeved coat has a gathered neckline edged with salmon pink Rouleau and tied at the opening (which does not have any fastenings). The earliest Methodist Church was on the corner of Whitehorse Road and Richards Street, Mitcham. In 1912 the church was removed to a site in Mitcham Road, just north of Whitehorse Road. By 1967 most of their buildings had been moved to the Presbyterian site on the corner of Whitehorse and Doncaster East Roads, Mitcham. Later the two denominations became the Uniting ChurchPhotograph of an organ in the Mitcham Methodist Church some time before the church closed in 1967. This is the oldest Mitcham Methodist Church and was initially situated on the corner of Richards Street and Whitehorse Road. It was then moved to a sight in Mitcham Road, Mitcham just North of Whitehorse Road. In the late 1960's it was moved to the Presbyterian site on the corner of East Doncaster and Whitehorse Roads, Mitcham. 1888 First Wesleyan church erected on the East corner of Richards St and Whitehorse Rd. 1021 Church was transferred and enlarged on Mitcham Rd. site. 1932 Church was extended Westward. Kindergarten room was extended east to form Wesley Hall. 1953 Church connected to Wesley Hall. 1957 house next to Church purchased. 1958 Community Hall opened. Presbyterian site used by both denominations. 1967 old Methodist site closes, Church building and Wesley hall transferred to Doncaster East and these photos show the Church being moved.Church being moved to Doncaster East. Eva Grant was a member of the Kew Historical Society. Three albums in the collection were created by her, this one, the third created between 1964 and 1966. They were donated to the Society by her daughter in 2010.
