Malcolm Cameron, came from Scotland to Australia with his wife in 1862. From late 1862 they lived in Bacchus Marsh and remained there for the rest of their lives. After working as a shepherd for some time, Malcolm Cameron was able to acquire land for a farm a few kilometres north west of Bacchus Marsh. The farm was called Glen View but this was later changed to Grand View. It is known to have been a wheat farm. Malcolm Cameron died aged 89 in 1922. His wife died in 1926. Mrs Cameron is presumed to be the woman seated in the photograph and the younger people the Cameron children. Small sepia unframed photograph on card with gold border framing photograph. The image shows a family group, the Cameron family of Bacchus Marsh, standing and sitting in the garden in front of their farm house. The group comprises four women, a girl, a boy and an elderly man, who is presumed to be Malcolm Cameron. The woman seated in the middle of the group is likely to be Mrs.Cameron. To the left in the picture is a dog. In the background is the weatherboard farm house, a simple construction with two large chimneys and a skillion extension.On the front: Stevenson & McNicoll. The P.W.M.U. was formed in May 1914, during the ministry of the Rev. Ben Williams. Mrs Williams presided at the first meeting. The object of the Union is to further the work of missions at home and abroad. t is responsible for mission work in china, Korea, New Hebrides, and deaconess work in the city.. Parcels of food are sent away from time to time. Last year the member made four quilts for the Babies’ Home. The Union has sustained severe losses in the departure from the district of Mrs I Robinson and Mrs E. Jessie Barrie: and Mrs Cameron was called to higher service on July 28th, 1947. The first President appointed was Mrs Atkin, Miss Macdonald, acted at Secretary of the Union for 22 years. For all the women who recognise the need of mission work for Christ, this Union is a wonderful opportunity for service. This book of poetry was written by war poet, Violet Bertha Cramer. It is a record of an Australian civilian woman’s perspective on war. The initials are G. K. Cameron, for Grace Kerr Cameron - Grace Charlotte Kerr Cameron. She was the twin daughter of James Cameron and Jane (Jean) Moffat. Her twin sister was Agnes Helen (Nell) Cameron, and her one brother was Harry Purchase Cameron (Roma Smith's father). Another brother Archibald Peter CAMERON, died aged 7. There is a family photo of Mrs Jane Cameron and the twins in the garden of the family home "Carinya". Grace and Nell lived in the family home following the death of their parents. Grace and Nell both died in 1940, then Roma and Ron SMITH lived at "Carinya" after their marriage in 1944. Lorraine and Peter COULTON's home is now on the site. (information from John Phillips and Margaret Smith). There was a lot of material written by Australian civilian women during the First World War. Violet B. Cramer was one poet who contributed to a valuable record of Australian civilian women’s perspectives on war.
