The inaugural service of the Eaglehawk Methodist Church, 6 Feb 1977. In September 1863 the foundation stone of the Eaglehawk Wesleyan Church was laid. The building was enlarged and completed in 1869. In March 1865 the Eaglehawk Primitive Methodist Church was opened. These two churches later known as the West and East Methodist Churches served Eaglehawk until December 31st 1976. On that day both churches ceased to exist, and on Sunday 2nd January 1977 the first service of a new church was held. Although using the property and buildings of the former West Methodist, the new church is now called the Eaglehawk Methodist Church. This church will have a short history, as it too will cease to exist in mid 1977 when it will close its' doors to reopen as the Uniting Church of Australia, a church formed from the present Methodist and Presbyterian Churches. The Inaugural Service of the new church was held on Sunday 6th February 1977. Enclosed is the order of service. Appropriately enough all hymns were of the pen of Charles Wesley with the exception of 784 which is a German hymn translated buy the founder of Methodism John Wesley.

He served part time as a chaplain during WW2 (V517227) After the war he married Thelma Muriel Phillips (10/6/1920 - 13/7/2008) in 1946. They are both buried at the Mornington Cemetery. 2. Mr John Brown Hamlett was born in England. In 1951 he married Audrey Sommerville in in Scottsdale, Tasmania. Their first son, David was born in Tasmania in 1952. The "Dead Man's Penny" of Private George Matthews (24/1744) is a district link to the First World War. George enlisted with the Otago Regiment, New Zealand Expeditionary Force as a rifleman. Born in 1891, he was a former pupil of Myrtleford State School 955 and was one of four first cousins killed in action and recorded in a memorial window and honour board at the Uniting (formerly Methodist) Church, the Soldier's Memorial Square and on the State School Honour Board. George's parents, John and Mary Matthews,received the plaque in a pack, together with a letter and commemorative scroll from King George V. George Matthews is buried at the Caterpillar Valley (N.Z.) Memorial, France, having died on October 1, 1916, aged 25. The memorial plaque links local family tragedy to world conflict. It represents the impact of such events must have had on small town communities. George Matthews' enlistment in New Zealand is an indicator of the migratory nature of men involved in gold mining after the decline of the industry in Victoria and New South Wales in the late 19th centuryA World War 1 memorial plaque issued to next-of-kin of all British and Empire service personnel who died as a result of the war. They were round and cast in bronze, hence their similarity to the much smaller penny coin. The plaque includes an image of Britannia, holding a trident and standing with a lion. Britannia holds an oak leaf above the deceased's name, which is recorded without rank. Two dolphins swim around Britannia, symbolizing sea power, and at the base a second lion is tearing apart the German eagle. Rev Quick served in seven Methodist Circuits in Victoria, one in Tasmania, one City Mission (North Melbourne) and also an appointment with the Methodist Inland Mission in Central Australia. He was one of the first ministers to be appointed to the new John Flynn Memorial Church in Alice Springs. Aubrey Quick was a part-time Chaplain in the Royal Australian Airforce and received an Order of Australia for his pastoral care of the apprentices the RAAF. He served on the University of Melbourne Queens College Council for 23 years. Navy blue wool belted jacket with four brass buttons and a brass buckle. The jacket has four pleated pockets, each with a brass button, one small ticket pocket on the RHS and two pale blue grosgrain ribbons at the cuffs. It is lined with black cotton and the sleeves with cream striped lining. In 1918 the Rev Harold Wheen presided at a meeting at Bondi and outlined the Constitution and the Ritual of the Methodist Girls' Comradeship. He suggested that members submit designs for a badge, incorporating the chosen colours (blue, white and gold) and the new name, Methodist Girls' Comradeship. The badge designed by Miss Bessie Sanger of Bondi, an ivy leaf signifying friendship, was chosen and subsequently became the badge of the Comrades Section of the Order. This photograph was published in Church and Nation 12 December 1984. The photograph was taken at celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of Parkdale Uniting (formerly Methodist) Church. The current brick veneer building incorporated an earlier weatherboard church built on the site. The old church was brick veneered and tiled in 1961. New kindergarten rooms were built at the rear in 1970. Reverend Edwin Iredale Watkin, D.D. (1839-1916) was born in Sydney and spent his early life in New Zealand before coming to Australia . He began his Wesleyan ministry in 1859. He was a leading member of the Royal Geographical Society of Victoria. He had a winning personality and was held in high regard and affection by the communities in worked in.
