According to records searched, Donald John Hatton was born born in 1899 in Perth. His father was John and mother was Annie Rebecca Perry Hendon(?) He died in Victoria, aged 78, at Box Hill. This photograph could be related to the Rev, L. W. Hatton and Mrs. Hatton formerly of Healesville Presbyterian Church. They left there in January 1947 to take over Mr. Hatton's new charge at Orbost..A black / white photograph on a cream coloured buff card with red print at the bottom. George Bradshaw MORRISS No 23670 enlisted in the RAN on 23.10.1939 aged 17 years. He was posted to Australian light cruiser, HMAS Perth. HMAS Perth was torpedoed & sunk by the Japanese Navy in the Battle of the Sunda Strait, between the islands of Java & Sumatra in late February 1942. Approximately half of the crew were lost & the remainder taken into captivity. 106 died as POWs. George died at Sandakan on 29.5.1945. Newspaper cutting from The Courier, 26/4/1975, titled "Gathering of tram museum enthusiasts" reporting on the first meeting of the group that was to form COTMA, provides details of those attending and conference organisation. Has a photo of the official luncheon: F Rogers (Town Clerk), Mrs Rogers, Lady Nicholson, BTPS President Maurice Calnin, the Mayor Sir Arthur Nicholson, Clyde Croft BTPS Secretary, Bill Kingsley Conference Organiser and Bill Jessup BTPS Vice President. Notes speakers were Phil A'Vard, A Wymond of the Puffing Billy Preservation Society, Peter Kahn of Sydney. Penleigh Boyd, Robin and Patricia Boyd's son, writes “Prior to 1950 Robin, like most other amateur or hobby photographers, took black and white printed photographs. The oldest slides date from 1950 when Robin and Patricia travelled to Europe on Robin’s Robert Haddon Travelling Scholarship.” In 1948 Robin Boyd was awarded ‘joint first place’ in the Robert Haddon competition for his design of Mildura art gallery. The scholarship helped fund their first overseas trip. Robin and Patricia were passengers on the Greek ship “Cyrenia” departing in May 1950, passing through the Suez Canal and landing in Genoa five weeks later. For six months, they travelled extensively throughout Europe (predominantly driving themselves) - France, Italy, United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Spain.Colour slide in a mount.
