George Burnett Barton (1836-1901), lawyer, journalist and historian, was born on 9 December 1836 in Sydney. He practised journalism rather than law for which he had qualified in 1860. This is Volume 1 and covers the proposals for colonising New South Wales, the transportation and the early years of Governor Phillip.This is a detailed history of New South Wales compiled from original records and is a very useful research tool.A hard cover 625 pp book with a dark brown cover. Ceramic bowl found in hut belonging to Georgie Ah Ling, who operated a market garden for about 70 years on the edge of the township of Donald. Hand-molded blue and white ceramic bowl. Outside of bowl has underglaze blue decoration of flowers, leaves and Chinese characters. Saw toothed decoration, with one line underneath, around outside rim. Half moon shape lines, with two lines through them, decorate inside rim. Two lines around inside base with one Chinese character in centre of inside base.One Chinese character on inside base of bowl. Often after a Service person returning from War, the Local Council would present them with a Certificate of Appreciation for their sacrifice's. In this case was to "Thomas Potter" after WW2. This is possibly 54610 Potter - Thomas RAAF, enlisted 27.4.1942 age 44. Discharged 22.3.1946 with the rank of Cpl in Air Defence HQ Townsville.Large Certificate on cream colour paper. Gold frame edges drawn inside of paper edge. Pictures of series of different service people standing over British & Australian flag and emblem of "City of Bendigo". Message of thanks and the name of returned soldier, followed by a poem and signature of Mayor and Town Clerk and stamp of Council. Last page and inside back cover is a handwritten in black ink letter. Letter written 5 Nov 1916. Letter contents - hoping the receiver, his wife, and kiddies are well. Bendigo Pottery was established in the 1850s, when Scottish migrant George Duncan Guthrie stumbled upon a local clay deposit and created a successful pottery business. Soon, it would rival the great Staffordshire potteries of 19th century England. It opened to tourists in 1971. Alex Gill began working at the Bendigo Pottery inn 1935 at the age of 13. Six months later he began an apprenticeship at the pottery and retired in 1986 as a Master Potter.Alex Gill works his potter's magic in Bendigo, Woman's Day Magazine Article by Heather Waby. This alluvial gold nugget was discovered in 1869 at Moliagul, by Cornish miners, John Deason and Richard Oates. It's gross weight was 109.51 kg and net weight of gold was 72.02 kg.
