Part of the Uebergang Collection (H49). This would have been used by Ray and Joyce Uebergang as children during the 1930s.Wooden frame with two-lense metal viewer. The metal viewer is an oval shape with an etched pattern and suede-covered edge. A removable wood and metal attachment has two wire holders for the stereograph cards. There is a folding spindle-shaped wooden handle attached to the base with a metal fitting. The stereograph is housed in a black cardboard box with 'Rose Stereographs' on the lid. The photographs were used for a series of photographs and postcards published by the Rose Stereograph Company in Armadale, Victoria. This envelope was sold by The Log Cabin in Marysville as a souvenir of Marysville. The Log Cabin was built by Thomas Henry Branchflower who had arrived from England late in 1921. It was built for Gwendoline Pitman after the death of her father Clarence Pitman and the disappearance of her sister Olive in July 1926. The Cumberland Valley is near Cambarville which was a timber town near Marysville. Cambarville is notable for its giant mountain ash (Eucalyptus regnans) trees within the Cumberland Memorial Scenic Reserve, and relics from former sawmills and gold mining. The Big Culvert is located nearby on the Marysville - Woods Point Road, which was historically part of the Yarra Track. Cambarville was established as a timber mill town in the 1940s. Timber mill owners A Cameron and FJ Barton named Cambarville. They established the mill to salvage timber from trees destroyed in the 1939 bushfires.
