Information pack advising the Nillumbik Festival has succeeded the Eltham Festival and is to be held 11-12 November 1995. Theme is "Nillumbik - Building the Future Together". It was an attempt to draw away from Eltham and be more inclusive of the wider communities in Nillumbik. This ledger was used by the Shire of Orbost from 1960-1962. The item was donated to Orbost & District Historical society from P.R.O.V. as a Place of Deposit (POD) item for safe keeping by a local history group or museum. The shire covered an area of 9,347 square kilometres and existed from 1892 until 1994 when it became part of the East Gippsland Shire Council. Orbost was at first included in the Bairnsdale Shire from 1882 and was later part of the Tambo Shire. Because of travelling distances the Croajingalong Shire was created in 1892 (name changed to Orbost Shire 17.2.1893 with James Cameron as the first Shire President. In 1994 it amalgamated to become part of East Gippsland Shire Council This is a handwritten record of accounts for the Shire of Orbost Council. It vpredates computer records. The Shire of Orbost no longer exists having been absorbed by the East Gippsland Shire Council.A heavy cash book with wooden covers and metal hinges. This ledger was used by the Shire of Orbost pound keeper from 1901 -1960. Facebook comments suggested this location may be a cabinetmaker by the name of Cook out the back of Panton Hill. Another comment recalled this man as a visitor to Montsalvat as a friend of the late poet, Geoffrey Egglestone. It is believed his name is Mizza. He is a Bohemium Poet. Many are farm animals. Impounded animals were either claimed by their owners after payment of a fee or if unclaimed , they were sold. The Orbost Pound was situated on Martin Street.This book is a record of a practice which was necessary to remove stock which were wandering on local roads or trespassing on neighbours. This certificate was presented at the East Gippsland Shire Council Australia Day celebrations on 26.1.2003. The veiling of McKillops bridge was a 'Year of the Outback' event. The event was organised by Orbost resident, Sr Helen Barnes RSJ. to show solidarity with rural people. The local community transformed the bridge into "a symbol of communal love and hope", when its sides were draped with hundreds of personal messages. McKillop's Bridge, located high in the Snowy Mountains, is named after George McKillop, a pioneering explorer of the area. The bridge is a vital link for isolated farming communities living beyond the Bonang highway. The Veiling of McKillops Bridge was a significant community event.A large framed certificate.
