Short history of the Long Gully Fie Brigade by G A Ellis. The brigade started in 1873 and was disbanded in 1932. The brigades's main appliance was a cart or reel pulled by the men. The men used to practice in Creeth Street and later there were competitions with other brigades. A new station was built in 1905. A 1981 Calendar of Sandhurst (Bendigo) in 1881. The front cover has many shots of the city including the Mining Exchange, the Fountain, the train station and many more. Second page, a, for January and February is a larger photo of the front of the Beehive Chambers and Mining exchange. Rev. Desmond Tarran (1916 - 1992). Born at Werribee. Converted at age 15. Entered the Home Missionary Training College in 1936. Spent 29 years in many appointments including 3 years 1950 - 1952 in Inland Mission in the Murchison area, Western Australia. Enlisted as an army medical orderly in 1940. Served in the medical service in Palestine and was transferred to a forward casualty station, then taken prisoner by the Japanese in 1942. On the Death Railway in Thailand worked closely with Dr E. (Weary) Dunlop and Dr Albert Coates in caring for starving and maltreated prisoners. Returned to home mission service in 1947. In 1966 was selected for special ordination as a Methodist minister. Robert Charlton conducted a blacksmith, wheelwright and farrier business on the corner of Evans and Station Street, Sunbury from 1918 to 1940. The copy was taken from a photograph displayed in Mick Walsh's garage which is now on the above site.A black and white photograph of two sheds. The Yakka Company established a factory in Sunbury in Barkly Street between Brook and Stations Streets in the late 1950s. The Sunbury factory provided employment for the town's population which was increasing. It was established in Sunbury before the larger factory was built in Broadmeadows.A black and white photocopy of a photograph of the corrugated iron Yakka factory. Sunbury Shopping Square now occupies the railway land which was once the football ground, scout hall, boys club, fire station and tennis courts for Sunbury residents.A coloured photograph taken at the T intersection of Macedon and Evans Streets. In 1990 the small gaol was dismantled from its site at Aitken's Gap and relocated in Sunbury outside the new police station.A black and white photograph of a small bluestone gaol with a shingle roof and two wooden doors. This photograph was taken in Evans Street, Sunbury near Sunbury Square.
