Covers - orange with title and advertising and calendar for 1924 and 1925 on inside of rear cover. Inside pages, missing pages 23 to 26 (see note below) printed on semi gloss paper with district information and Advertisements. Pages 7 to 11 loose - due to removal of other pages. Centre stapled. Page 1 has a table of contents, giving municipal and district information including banks, clubs, Councillors, Hospitals, JP's Industries, Medical, Newspapers, Parks, Places of interest, schools, train and bus timetables and trams (see note below). Item was contained within the back cover of Reg Item 5486 - Service Exercise Book, black covers, with label, red binding titled "No. 2 - Ballarat Tramways & S.E.C. Systems" - see list. Yields information about the way the SEC repair overhead failures on the Ballarat Tramway system - shows the trucks and the crews involved.Black and White copy photograph of a newspaper photograph taken by The Courier of repairs to damaged overhead wire, Lydiard St North, just to the north of the Railway level crossing. Tram services were disrupted as a result. Photo taken 23/4/1965, published 24/4/1965. Shows three SEC vehicles in use, including the tower truck. By the front of the truck, the overhead wire and a set of ears can be seen. The Victorian Railways Institute building is in the background. In the far background is the North Star hotel. The types of truck, from the left hand side are Ford (Tower Truck), International and a Bedford. Collected by Alan Bradley from the Ballarat Courier early 1980's. Yields information about the correspondence between the SEC staff about the opening of tram tracks for underground services.Original of a report, handwritten in pencil from a copy book (pages 26 and 27), dated 23/3/1937, addressed to the Manager, from Mr. Mawby titled "Opening up of tram tracks by Plumber etc" reporting on a Mr. McLean excavating under track in Drummond St on 23/3 for a Ballarat Water Board pipe and the issues that arose. No notification to the SEC, underground services, and the absence of advice from traffic crews. Used by ESCo to enable identification of depot employees when travelling on their trams. Date made and when used unknown. See also 1798 for another example.Demonstrates a employee's free pass for travelling on Ballarat's trams.Handmade metal badge from brass sheet about 54 in diameter with a slot (long oval shape) about 23 long x 5 deep through which a leather strap could be fitted through. Stamped in capital letters on the badge are "BALLARAT TRAMWAYS" on the outside, "EMPLOYEES CAR DEPOT", in the centre of the badge, with the word "Employees" in a semi-circle. Yields information about the last day of the Ballarat Tram Depot operations with the payout and the closure of the gate.Newspaper Clipping from the Courier, Saturday 9 Oct 1971 - titled "End of an Era", of the last day of the tramway depot in Wendouree Parade. Photo features Stan Lakey, foreman at the tramways depot for 23 years, closing the gate at the tramway depot. The men (workers) had been paid off the previous day by Mr. W. Trusler, supervisor. Has 8 other workers in the photo. Appears that the men are holding their payslips or other documents. Date of item can be determined from notice of electricity interruption, on rear of item for Sunday 10/10/1971. Has been damaged. 3/2/1926 Letter from Bruce Henderson re transport in the Glen Eira Rd area – poor private bus. 25/10/1925 Letter to G. Higgins, regarding a paper he had presented and printed in Australian Municipal Journal about transport around Melbourne, predicted the demise of trams, trains. Notes Spencer St bridge. Copy of paper is pinned with letters. 28/819/22 Copy of letter to H&D from AEC (see above) Includes the Mexborough test gradient drawing. Undated Pamphlet from Railless Limited about Birmingham’s new trolley buses. 16/3/1923 Extract from Electric Railway and Tramway Journal – wages of trolleybus drivers not getting paid extra in Bradford. Two copies pinned together. 9/4/1923 Letter from H&D re pamphlet exchange You should have had it! 23/2/1923 Letter to H&D asking for information. Has a note re the Board’s attitude towards motor buses. 28/8/1922 to 24/23 Series of letters pinned together with L. de Koenneritz regard trolley buses and Paris. Noted that the MMTB did not have the legislative power to run trolley buses. 15/2/1922 to 10/4/23 Series of letters pinned together with the Aust. GE regarding trolley buses and references to their operation in journals. 10/1/1923 Letter from H&D re request for information on driving gear of Railless Ltd. vehicles 23/2/1923 Letter to H&D re above. 23/2/1923 Sheet of paper on “Steads Review” paper – pamphlet not yet to hand. 8/11/1922 to 10/1/1923 Series of letters with H&D pinned together asking for Railless driving gear – reluctant to provide. 26/9/1922 Letter from H&D, with copy of letter from English Electric enclosing materials regarding Trolley Bus equipment. Framed MMTB Logo or Monogram - decal, printed in gold, mounted in a brown stained wooden frame with gold lining, glued to timber or could be an aluminium sheet - given the weight and condensation), glazed, has number 20891.
