There has been a long delay for specifications from the Traffic Commission. An unused subsidy to Council of $2867 would go toward the cost of the Brittania St lights. The Mitcham Football Club was established in 1888. Known as the 'Tigers', their colours are black and yellow and their home ground is at Walker Park, Mitcham. Originally the club played on the Reporter and District League where they won premierships in 1904, 1905, 1914, 1915 and 1921, then in the Eastern Suburbs Football League they won a premiership in 1947. Gordon Riches who had a hairdressing and tobacco business in Whitehorse Road, Mitcham. He remembers the old days of Mitcham Memorial Hall - opened 1923. When Mitcham R.S.L. moved from the hall to premises in McDowall Street it was decided to return the hall to the local community by selling it to the Nunawading Council. The original Mitcham Station was opened on 25th December 1882. Until the 1970s a shunting yard and goods shed existed where the southern car park is now. Tracks remained embedded in the car park for many years. In 1979 boom gates were provided at both Mitcham Road and Rooks Road. From December 2009 to January 2010 Mitcham Railway Station was used as a bus interchange when the realignment of tracks and construction of a new station occurred at Nunawading.
