Hand written data on the safety cage. The first page is a memorandum to Mr J H Seymour from the International patent & Trade Marks Office informing Mr Seymour that the Provisional Specification of his invention has been accepted in Victoria, dated 17 Oct 1892. The second page is a copy of a card from John H Seymour, City Foundry, Wattle St. Sandhurst outlining the safety cage, the lives it has saved and orders will receive prompt attention and further information may be had from the above address. W. Holmes, Printer. The third page is to Miss Kingerlee from Allan Llewellyn with reference to the memorandum and card dated Sept 1, 1972. He says he copied the memorandum and card for her and Mr F Fitzpatrick has the originals. Document - VICTORIA HILL - THE RICH VICTORIA HILL AND IT'S HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION
Two copies of document : ineteen handwritten pages of notes on 'The Rich Victoria Hill and Its Historical Association' Signed by A Richardson and dated 30 - 8 - 1971. and a typed copy of same. Notes include: Introduction, Hotels, Mines, Mining History and descriptions of features where the signposts are. Mines mentioned in the text are: North Old Chum. Ballerstedt's first open cut, Lansell's Big 180. 20 head stamper, Lansell's Cleopatra Needle, Victoria Quartz Mine. Cleopatra's Needle was a square sectioned brick chimney with this four sided pyramidal chimney top with four vents to allow the smoke to escape whatever the direction of the wind. It was demolished in the 1950's as it had a bend in it and it was considered unsafe. In Retrospect In mid 1952, a distinguished man arrived in Bendigo and interested several citizens, including Dr. P Goodman, the President of the Musical Advancement Society, in the formation of a Company for the production of Musical Comedy. The meeting was called at the home of Mr Fred Bush, and a group of enthusiasts made the acquaintance of Mr Norman Lee, our producer and sequently the M.A.S. and several leading citizens, sponsored the first production, by subscribing funds for initial expenses. From such humble beginning, our present Society originated. Mr Cyril Cyril Warne was appointed Musical Director, Mrs Phyllis House, Pianist, and Miss Madge Welch, Ballet Mistress. During the Season of ''Chu Chin Chow,'' the Society will stage its 100th performance - indeed an outstanding feat in such a brief history. Large cream & green certificate awarded to K. Foster & H. Skewes for 2nd prize in the under 16 Piano Duet at the Eaglehawk Branch A. N. A. Annual Competitions in 1906. No. 10 is printed on the bottom left corner. Certificate has Australian Coat of Arms at the top and a lady playing a harp at the bottom. Beside her is a broad leaf plant and Music printed under it. On the right is a lady holding an artist's board. She is standing on a pedestal with Art engraved on it. On the left is a man holding a scroll. He is standing on a pedestal with Oratory engraved on it. All three people are wearing Roman type garments. Certificate is decorated with a geographic border, leaves & scroll work. It is framed in a large green, gold and cream frame with a narrow gold inner frame.The frame has raised, gold highlighted flowers and leaves. No glass. On the back is a label: From D. G. Large piano certificate mounted on cardboard. It was awarded to Miss M Foster for Piano Solo under 17. First Prize in the Annual Competitions 1906 of the Eaglehawk Branch A. N. A. R. F.
