Two colour prints (Copies 1 and 2) of the scene at the Hospital Corner, Drummond St. Sth and Sturt St. after the running of the last tram from Sebastopol prior to running into the depot on 19 Sept. 1971. Shows one bogie tram No. 40 (from the advertising boards) with many people at the corner, a few cars and a police car leading the tram through the people standing around. Has the liquor store on the south west corner of the intersection in the background. Tram is heavily loaded with passengers. Copy 1 on Fujicolour Crystal Archive Paper is the better exposed and larger print and has been used in the scanned image.. Copy 2 another print off the same negative but with a smaller photograph area. Original film image scanned at 3200dpi 12/5/2020 and record revised. Image i2 - shows the crowd before the tram departed with a police escort. ... an ESCo tram soon after opening running west bound in Sturt St... opening running west bound in Sturt St with the Town Hall ...Newspaper cutting from The Courier, Ballarat, Tuesday 20/9/1994 of the reproduction of a postcard photograph showing an ESCo tram soon after opening running west bound in Sturt St with the Town Hall in the background. Shows the development of the Gardens at the time and buildings on either side of Sturt St. and type of poles etc. The tram is fitted with a destination board on the front dash - the type used soon after opening in 1905. Caption of the photo says "Trams run up Sturt St and people relax in this postcard sent in December 1907. Ballarat's Town Hall is pictured at right." Also has an item in the "In Retrospect" section of the newspaper, about the construction of a new road to avoid two level crossings between Talbot and Clunes. B&W postcard of an ESCo tram at the east end of Sturt St. Ballarat, with the Grenville St. shelter in the background. Shows buildings along both sides of Sturt St. Has a few pedestrians in the photo and some horse drawn vehicles in the background. Tram in style with destination box/lights at back of drivers canopy. Has title "Sturt Street - looking West, Ballarat" in top left hand corner. On rear "H.J. Summerscales, next Post Office, Ballarat - Printed in Germany" on left hand edge vertically. Post card dated 29/12/10 (1910), from E.H. Colson? at 49 Webster St. wishing the recipient a happy new year. Recipient - Mr. A. Steer, Glen Eira Rd. Elsternwick. Has a Ballarat Post office and stamp and Victorian 1d stamp (red). As well in pencil, a price "$15". See also scanned image file and prints from negative at Reg. Item 833. B&W print and scanned images of a coloured postcard lent to the BTM by Mr. Norm DePomeroy, Dec. 1997. Image is of a horse tram leave the Grenville St. terminus, to travel west bound along the north side of Sturt St. Has many pedestrians in photo and some horse drawn vehicles. Shows the position of the horse tram track in Sturt St., north side, was not up against the south side kerb. Postcard has a Christmas message on the base of it. Also shows telegraph poles along the north side of Sturt St. 1 copy held at 8/98. Postcard dated 22 Dec. 1904 See Reg Item 2437.1, 2437.2 for original postcards held within the collection. See 836i3. Sewn in three sections, with a green strip of cloth and self end papers and printed outer paper, sides glued onto board covers. Consists of 43 colour photographs (full and half page) with captions, detailed text, and two black and white photos printed in blue on end covers.
