Block mounted, black and white (sepia toned) photo of Ballarat Horse Tram No. 1 outside the Wendouree Parade depot, late 1887, with 16 workmen standing or lying around the tramcar. Builders Photo. Tram is lettered "BALLAARAT TRAMWAY CO LIMITED". A sign on the advertising board says "Duncan & Fraser, Builders, Ballaarat". The men around the tram are dressed in trade clothes, including carpenters, painters and blacksmiths. Mounted on to preprinted card with a printed border and along the bottom edge "Richards & Co." and "Photo". See also Reg Items 1654 and 765 for different prints of the same photo. 3042.1 - Same photo, but in better condition. Has "Richards & Co Photo" on stamped on left hand side and has a red border similar to the Reg. Item 3042, but has been cut around it. Sixty eight page, sewn book within brown Rexene heavy card covers with printed self end papers. Titled "Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board / Rules and Regulations / relating to drivers, conductors and employees concerned in any aspect of electric tram and motor omnibus operation." Dated 30/5/1957 Has stamped number "790" in bottom. Printing number 1/228. Provides for 226 General Rules - in four sections - General, Tram system only, Bus system only, Accident prevention and procedure (Tram and Bus), and By-Law Nos. 11 and 16, General and Lost property. On both inside covers are printed messages about wearing uniforms, being courteous and safety. On the back pages are printed Long Service Certificate and Certificate of Service. Has a number of amendments adhered to the relevant pages - rules 116, 144j, 15, 160, 216. Eight page booklet, off white paper, saddle stapled, with additional yellow Rexene light weight cover titled "The Australian Tramway and Motor Omnibus Employees' Association / Agreement / Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong". Details basic wages, adjustments with CPI, minimum rates to employees, time off between shifts, extra duties, meal breaks, cash shortages, holidays, Sundays, leave, free travel, uniforms. Dated 23/3/1937. Two copies held See also 8078.2 for another copy."Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society Catalogue No. 217" in ink on top of first page on both copies. Copy 1 - has name "P.H. Thomas" (?) on front cover and inside title sheet and numerous notes and some changes in ink and pencil throughout. Copy 2 - has numerous notes etc throughout with dates up to 16/11/1939. Each sheet or run details where the driver/conductor would sign on, time, the trips, meal breaks, finish time. Shows the tram operations with many short workings with some very detailed instructions.Demonstrates SEC crew timetables or sheets for tram operations.Set of Table or Run sheets for the Ballarat Tramways. Two tables per sheet, punch along top edge, with ring protectors on top sheet. Groups of sheets have been stapled centrally along the top edge. See Reg Item 3423.1, 3423.2 for Weekdays Motorman and Conductors. Both items dated January 1970. Ring protector hides actual day. 3424.1 - Saturdays - Runs 1 to 16, some carbon copies, mostly typed originals. 3424.2 - Sundays, Runs 1 to 20 (even numbers only) and run 21. All carbon copies. Significant in being a poster distributed by the SEC in Ballarat to advise passengers of the new timetable to apply from March 1970, reduction in services prior to closure, due to reducing crew numbers and to save money.Foolscap Sheet, glossy one side only, titled "Alteration to Fares", under the SEC and "Ballarat Tramways" heading. Gives details of timetable changes for Ballarat, commencing 16-3-1970. Gives details of service frequencies. Printed by Alex King & Sons Print, Ballarat and signed by F. K. Set of 17 large and 7 small TB uniform clothing buttons. Large Button about 23 diameter, with TB crest, with backing piece and lug for sewing on rear. Nickel plated silver? Most have two holes in the rear as well. All but one made by Stokes and Sons, Victoria. One large button made by K. G. Luke A/Asia. Small button, approx. 16 diameter, as above, with or without holes in the rear. One button by K. G.
