Negative No. N317 and black and white print made by a laser printer (stored in folder ) of W7 1003 turning from Nicholson St. into Gertrude St. Fitzroy. Taken with part of another tram cabin in the foreground - assume 988. Geoff Grant's envelope notes state "1003 swinging round the curve into Gertrude St. This then took over the running honour of being the first tram over the Bourke St. route." A4 size sheet of paper, printed up as a BTPS (BTM) conductor's Revenue Journal for Adults fares as 60c, Children 30 and all day cards $1.20. Standard BTPS Revenue Journal format that was altered as necessary for the various fares. Known as form T2. Fares were 60c/30c from 1/11/1980 to 31/10/1985. Form would have been printed about Nov. 1980 and used to after the next fare rise as stocks were exhausted and the revised fares marked in by hand. Two copies held. Bell portion of a tramcar conductor's bell. Approximately. 100mm diameter, about 35mm deep with a raised or bossed hole at the top 4.5mm at the top. Bell possibly cast or pressed brass, appears to have been damaged or repaired due to excess brass in portion of the bell and on the underside where signs of brass welding are apparent. If from a horse tram, would have most likely been made by Duncan and Fraser of Adelaide SA. Pre printed certificate form "FMI 5-190 R2". Occupation given as "Driver/Conductor, Tramways" for the period from 19/9/1967 to 3/8/1971. Gave conduct and ability as "Satisfactory" and reason for leaving "Retrenchment". Issued on 5/8/1971 by Personnel Superintendent. Has D. J. Everett's signature on left hand margin. Significant in being a roster rotation sheet that issued prior to the reduction in services - date unknown and also a different way of doing things compared to other sheets. Has foreword by Tom Roper, Minister for Transport, Describes the proposed system, vehicles, development of articulated vehicles (2001, 2002), interchange with rail services, travel times and a map showing the proposed route, including a possible extension along Mitford St. and Broadway to Glenhuntly Road. Has a number of artists impressions of the vehicles at Station Pier and South Melbourne station. Murdoch, General Manager of the TB Melbourne regarding rates of pay for conductors and drivers. 1977.1 - Letter from Mr. Pringle to Mr. Murdoch dated 27/8/1929, received by TB 28/8/1929, thanking for information regarding rates of pay. On ESCo letterhead. Has file number "22/1/2" in pencil in top right hand corner. Has been folded into 6. Handmade book with light green covers made from a cut file holder with brown paper glued on the inside, containing 39 typed (original) sheets of paper giving Instructions or Rules to Motormen. Has five page index, then 34 pages, with 104 rules or instructions, covering Tramcar Equipment (electrical), location of faults, tramcar braking, failure of the mechanical brakes, tramcar emergency braking, automatic braking, automatic electric signals and general instructions for Ballarat. The brown paper appears to have been placed on the outside, as it is cut and glued on the inside of the book. Individual sheets held into the book with a metal clip. On the rear of the book, a small piece of cardboard has been glued over the back of the metal strip. Notes mentions bogie trams, so therefore post 1945. Gives details of route electric signals, use of doors on the trams relevant to the central median strip. On page 4, has hand drawn diagram showing the motors in series and parallel. On page 8 has a hand drawn diagram showing the car lighting circuit arrangements. Has been folded in the middle so as to store in pockets of a coat.
