A history of the Batman Apple Tree and Pioneer Children's Cemetery along the Plenty River. Prepared by Samantha Westbrooke Pty Ltd in association with Peter Mills, historian. The Batman Apple tree is said to be over 170 years old, being brought to Greensborough in the 1840s from the Melbourne orchard of John Batman, following Batman's death in 1839. Supposed to have been built by J. D. McHaffie on his property at Ventnor and removed to Innishowen by Mr Harbison when he bought the property at Ventnor from J. D. McHaffie. Redcliffe House was a Guest House in 1924 and in 1937 opened its doors to under-privileged children. In 1950 Redcliffe House was divided into flats. The Ventnor School had its beginning in the Ventnor Hall, which was built by parents of the children. It was opened on 5th May 1915 and Miss Ruby Bright was the first Head Teacher. Later an area was purchased from Mr Thomas Jones and a new school was erected at a cost of £790.2.6.
