Nina Black , standing at the back in the middle of the group, taught Greek dancing to many young Australian-born Ithacans. She also taught Greek language and English to adult migrants. Nina worked tirelessly with migrant community in the post mass migration period. Learning traditional Greek dancing has been one way that Ithacans who settled here were able to maintain their culture. Traditional Greek dancing is always popular at Ithacan social events. Johnny Gray was born in England and came to Australia in 1959, and grew up in Broadmeadows, Pascoe Vale, and educated at Broadmeadows Tech. In 1970 he began professional wrestling, competing in countries around the world. Retiring from wrestling he became a health and fitness consultant. From its beginnings in 1958, the Society has mounted exhibitions and/or displays, in early days in shop window and in community spaces located in the Kew City Hall (later Kew Library), and since 2010 at the Kew Court House. Exhibitions typically coincided with the annual Kew Community Festival in March, but after 2013 evolved into three new exhibitions yearly at the Kew Court House. Smaller displays continue to be mounted in the Kew Library. Clothing - FAVALORO COLLECTION: FLOOR LENGTH SILK COSTUME, 1950's
Clothing. Floor length silk costume. Purple silk bodice front and back with 16 cm slit at centre back from neckline. Round neckline edged with pink satin binding. External tucks (3cm) extend over shoulders to half way down bodice on front and back. Bodice extends to a dropped waistline. Bright green silk skirt gathered slightly onto bodice. Triangular pieces of green silk fabric gathered onto arm holes to form sleeves. The sleeve is of the triangle open along the top edge and the point of the triangle ends underneath the wrist.
