... for local and visitors, and is a site for boating, kayaking, fishing... fishing and leisure boats are moored on either side of creek... for boating, kayaking, fishing and swimming, along with many other ...The name Mordialloc was derived from the name Moody Yallock, which comes from the Bunurong language. The Bunurong Peoples are the Traditional Owners of this area. The name means “high water” or “high creek”. In 1839, colonial authorities declared the mouth of the creek, and an additional 830 odd acres as an Aboriginal Reserve, although this proclamation was never gazetted. The reserved land included part of the Carrum Carrum Swamp which was abundant with wild life and natural resources. Regular encroachments, including land sales which began in 1863, were made on the land until 1878 when the Reserve was declared closed, and the land was opened up to land sales. Market gardening and suburban house lots quickly began to develop, and Mordialloc became a renowned picnic and holiday site. Mordialloc Creek is a popular bay side destination for local and visitors, and is a site for boating, kayaking, fishing and swimming, along with many other activities.Colour photograph of Mordialloc Creek, looking inland.Small fishing and leisure boats are moored on either side of creek, with a view of the Mordialloc Bridge Hotel in the background.mordialloc, bunurong, traditional owners, suburbs, boats, fishing, waterways, hotel -

Warrnambool, named after the City of Warrnambool in Victoria. This ship was the second of that name. The first H. M.A.S. Warrnambool, launched in 1941, was one of 60 Bathurst-class corvettes commissioned by the Australian Government. It was involved in mine clearance work in the Great Barrier Reef after World War Two. The mines had been laid by the Australian Government during the war to protect Australian waters. In 1947 the first H.M.A.S. Warrnambool was sunk by one of these mines and lies on the ocean floor off Cockburn Reef in northern Queensland. The second H.M.A.S. Warrnambool was commissioned in 1981 and was a Fremantle-class patrol boat assisting in capturing illegal fishing boats and participating in military exercises in Australian waters. In 2005 the second H.M.A.S. Warrnambool was decommissioned after 24 years’ service. This pennant is important as a souvenir of the H.M.A.S Warrnambool, a ship that had obvious links with the City of Warrnambool. In 2005 the Mayor of Warrnambool, Glenys Phillpot, attended the decommissioning of this ship at Darwin and brought back several souvenirs of the ship. This is a triangular-shaped pennant made of dark blue felt material. It has stitching at the straight edge with two tabs for attaching the pennant to a pole or post. The pennant has a badge of yellow, black and white tonings printed or stamped on to the felt. The badge includes a white unicorn, a stylized ship and crown, a boomerang and two other implements and the motto, ‘Protect and Avenge’. The words, ‘H.M.A.S. Warrnambool’ are printed on the pennant in yellow. ‘H.M.A.S. Warrnambool’h.m.a.s. warrnambool, history of warrnambool -

He has the original cotton canvas sails that were fitted on the boat when she was built, and which still are in working condition. Richard says that one of his favourite pastimes has been trolling for pike around Swan Island, close by Queenscliff, ensuring that the heritage of this Lacco-built boat fishing boat is preserved. In about 2015, Wendy underwent a rebuild including: a new centre-case, ribs and deck, and a new Yanmar engine. The works were done by Bryon Miller of Peninsula Wooden Boats. Subsequently a fishing boat ...Retrieved from crashed (during W.W.2) Avro Anson aircraft at Propeller Bay near Lady Julia Percy Island in 13 metres of water. Found adjacent to the remains of the engine and propeller in June 1993 by Peter Ronald. It was possibly used to adjust control cables. The plane went down on the 15th February 1944 Flight Sgt. J.H. MacLellen, Flight Sgt D.l. Baulderstone, LAC N.T. Kruck, LAC B.C. Ladyman were killed. A memorial was erected at the 'Crags' on the 14th of February 2015 . " At 0800 Anson AW878 of 2AOS took off from Mount Gambier to carry out a radius of action navigation exercise to Lady Julia Percy Island (located off the Victorian coast, midway between Portland and Warrnambool) and back to Mount Gambier. By 1230 it was overdue, and that afternoon a search was instituted. No radio messages had been received from the Anson, although it had been seen during the exercise by another aircaraft. At 1430 part of the mainplane was sighted on Lady Julia Percy Island. Subsequently a fishing boat searched in the vicinity of the island and passed through small pieces of wreckage strewn over about 3 miles. A further search uncovered wreckage which identified the plane beyond doubt, including fuel tank bay cover with AW878 penciled on it, and a Mae West which had been signed out by one of the crew. The bodies of the four crew were never located."
