Document, Ringwood Ladies Benevolent Society 1929-1939
The constitution states that the object of the Society is to relieve the wants of the poor -especially women and children- by suppyling them with clothing ,boots, food, fuel and other necessaries. The members of the Society to be councillors wives and representatives of Religious organisations.The President shall be the Mayoress. the positions of Treasurer and Secretary shall be Honorary. Mrs. McCaskill , whose husband was a Councillor at that time was the first President, a position she held for many years. There were 32 Ladies Benevolent Societies in the metropolitan area at this time. By the early 2000s there only a few left and Ringwood was one of the last to close about 2008 when it was absorbed into the Citizen's Advice Bureau. Various typed and hand written documents relating to the Ringwood Ladies Benevolent Society formed in 1929. 1- Constitution and Rules. 2- First Annual Report dated 1930. 3- Financial report submitted to The Charities Board of Victoria. 4- Receipts and expenditure for year ending 30th June 1930. 5- List of Societies affiliated with the Central Council of Victorian Ladies' Benevolent Societies. 6- Notification of first Annual Meeting of the Society in 1930. 7- Miscellaneous documents and newspaper clipping relating to the Ringwood Ladies Benevolent Society. -

Includes colour photographs and separate double-sided A4 public information brochure advertising facilities and opening hours.Summary of facility development from Mayor's opening address: These pools were originally built in 1970 and the complex was named in honour of the Town Clerk of Ringwood for many years - Fred Dwerryhouse Swimming Centre. In 1980 the pools were heated and in 1985 Ringwood Council decided to enclose the main pool, install air conditioning, add a diving area, heat the main pool all year, and generally upgrade the entire complex.rinx -

"Extracts from Recent Daily Newspaper - Ringwood Train Service - STATION WANTED AT RINGWOOD EAST. A deputation from the Ringwood East Railway League and Progress Association waited on the chairman of the Railway Commissioners yesterday afternoon and asked that a railway station be erected at Dublin-road, a mile and a quarter from Ringwood. The deputation urged that there were 81 passengers who, if the station were provided, would make daily use of it, and that as the Commissioners had purchased a site for a station at Dublin-road it was evident they had at one time considered it the most suitable site. The Chairman of Commissioners stated that the estimated cost of the station was £3700. Land owners in the locality should pay a proportion of the cost. Members of the deputation replied that there would be no difficulty in raising the money."Multi-fold brochure advertising public auction of residential allotments on Saturday, 10th November, 1923. Flyer includes extract from "The Sun" 30/10/1924. "Ringwood has been created a Borough with capital value of £680,000. In 1908 there were 173 houses, 8 shops and 720 people. In 1918 the respective figures were 520, 45 and 2,080. For twelve months ended June, 1924, £51,000 worth of Home Sites were sold and £26,000 worth of new buildings were erected. Outward (train) passenger journeys have increased from 94,000 in 1919 to 182,000 in 1923.
