Eupnine Vernade was a product used in the early 20th century for the treatment of bronchitis, asthma, emphysema and bronchiectasis adjuvant in the treatment of sequaelae of influenza. It contained 10% caffeine iodide, and "exerts an intense action on the respiratory tract, stimulating the bronchial secretion and facilitating expectoration. It regulates and strengthens the heart, contracts the blood vessels of the splanchnic area, but dilates those of the heart and lung. It "also exerts a powerful diuretic action, thus diminishing the strain on the heart." Dr. Curt Schimmelbusch (1860-1895), a German physician, designed his original mask around 1889 while an assistant surgeon. Surgical assistants were often assigned the task of delivering the anesthetic. During anesthesia it was not uncommon for ether and chloroform to get onto the patient’s skin, causing irritation. Chloroform can even cause burn-like reactions. Schimmelbusch designed the rim of his mask so that both sides curve away from the patient’s face to form a kind of trough. He intended the trough-like rim to collect excess anesthetic that would otherwise have trickled onto the patient’s face. To anesthetize a patient, gauze was stretched over the metal bars and fastened in place by the hinge. The mask was placed over the patient’s nose and mouth, and the anesthetic was applied in drops or lightly poured onto the gauze so that the patient breathed in evaporated anesthetic as well as air. This type of mask is sometimes still used today for ether anesthesia in developing countries when other means are not available. An oval shaped mobile wire frame is attached to the lower part of the mask by a hinge at the back, approximately two inches from the lip of the metal handle. The Schreder HP 14T is a variant of an all metal single seat sailplane designed by Richard Schreder of USA in the 1960s. The HP14T featured a ‘T’ tail in place of ‘V’ tail of the HP14V. The design was marketed to home builders in kit form. The Museum’s Schreder HP14T (VH-GIB) first flew on 31 August 1974. It has recorded 280 hours in the air from 239 launches to 28 January 1989, the date of its last flight. It is understood that VH-GIB was partly constructed in North America and completed in South Australia by C.G.M. Coxon. Ownership passed to the Georgeson Syndicate of Rockhamption, Queensland and later to Warren Mayfield of Victoria. Warren Mayfield donated the glider to the Museum in April 2002. The Hall Cherokee II glider is an American design for amateur construction from plans. The designer was Stan Hall (1915-2009), a professional engineer, who gained extensive experience in the United States aviation industry during World War 2 including the programs for military gliders. He continued to work as an engineer for aircraft manufacturers and as a consultant to the industry after the war. He was active in gliding and, in particular, the home built sailplane movement. The Cherokee II was one of about 10 glider designs that he produced: it came out in 1956. It is understood that over 100 Cherokee gliders have been built. In Australia the number is possibly 10 or 11. The Hall Cherokee VH-GVO was built by R.D Meares of Caringbah, New South Wales. The glider was registered as VH-GVO on 11 October 1973 and given serial number “GFA-HB-82” by the Gliding Federation of Australia. The Logbook for VH-GVO appears to be a complete record of the flying history; in aggregate 210 hours 40 minutes in the air from 331 flights. The first test hop occurred on 29 July 1972 at Camden, New South Wales. VH-GVO was last flown on 22 July 1986. Many of the flights recorded are of one or two hours duration. The glider was last inspected and certified as airworthy and in a reasonable condition at the Hunter Valley Gliding Club in July 1986. Since that time, until transferred to the Australian Gliding Museum, the glider was in storage. Structural restoration work has been completed on the fuselage and one wing. However, inspection of the other wing revealed extensive damage to the ribs and spars and consequently a decision was taken to make it a static exhibit. The exhibit is an example of home built construction of a type that has proved popular amongst amateur glider builders.The Hall Cherokee (formerly registered as VH-GVO) is a single seat wooden home built glider. The glider is constructed from wood, plywood, fabric and metal fittings, all commercial grade except for main wing fittings, pulleys, cables and bolts. The fuselage is simple with four main longerons and bulkheads with diagonal bracing. The wing has two identical solid spars which form a geodetic structure, hence the leading edge is non-structural. The Schreder HP 14V is an all metal single seat sailplane designed by Richard Schreder in America. The design is an evolution of Schreder’s metal sailplane designs that date from the late 1950s. Schreder won the United States National Soaring Championship in 1966 in the prototype HP 14. He marketed the glider in kit form in the 1960s and 1970s and allowed Slingsby in the UK to further develop the design for production. Schreder HP14 V, registered as VH-GGB, was built in South Australia by Harry Bache of the Waikerie Gliding Club in the 1970s. Martin Simons, an authority on vintage sailplanes (including Slingsby types), refers to this airframe as “built entirely from scratch”. After Bache, this Schreder HP14V passed on to E.G. Moore and N.L. Lovell at Ararat in Western Victoria, then Graeme Rickert of the Canberra Gliding Club and finally, to Greg O’Sullivan of the Geelong Gliding Club. The glider was first flown on 20 December 1975. It appears to have been flown regularly over its life to 2015 and the cumulative use being 1386 hours flown from 702 launches. The log book does not disclose details of flights except as aggregates of flights and times. Details of notable flights by Bache and Moore et al are not available. However, reports from Rickert and O’Sullivan indicate that a good number of cross-country flights of 300km or longer were achieved in this aircraft. This carriage forms part of a matching set of the W classification which were built to match each other around 1914Second class railway carriage red in colour with a white clerestory roof. It has 7 compartments each with two green vinyl bench seats. Pressed metal ceilings with a light in the centre and racks above the seats. There is a men's toilet at one end of the carriage and a ladies toilet at the other end, with a double seat outside both toilets as a waiting area. In these areas there are several Art Nouveau pressed metal panels. The outside of the carriage has the numbers 2 BW painted on the side.

Bodice of jacket has 8 cm vertical lace inserts next to the edge of the bands, continuing over the shoulders and down the back of the bodice to the waist. Clothing.Woman's cream coloured long sleeved silk bodice. High round neckline with 4 cm stand up collar. Semi-circular yoke front and back (13cm radius). Collar and yoke have embroidered net over silk fabric. Kimono cut long sleeves have cuffs of embroidered net over silk from shoulder to wrist along top of sleeve (33cm X 4 cm). Sleeves and front of bodice have all over vertical pin tucks. The front of the bodice has cotton tape ties stitched across from centre front to side seams at waist level gathering the fabric to form a peplum effect at the front. The tails of the cotton tapes tie across the back from the side seams. Full length front opening fastened with nine press-studs between collar and waist and a metal hook and eye at the waist. Clothing. Black silk-satin fabric, mid-calf length dress, gathered from the waistline. A black, pleated cummerbund encircles the waist, fastening at the left side with three metal hooks, and hand stitched loops. Long set in sleeveshave a fine piping around the arm holes, and have a hand stitched neatening to finish. Shoulder seams are also piped. A long, narrow collar of lace, bound in 2.5 cm satin edging, attaches almost to the waistline-finishing just 9 cm above the waist. A 'bib front' attached at the right side to the bodice lining, attached to the eaistline, and closing on the left hand shoulder side, with metal hooks, and hand stitched loops. Bodice closes over the top with a metal press-stud. Front bodice has three tiny pleats on each shoulder seam and gathers into the waistline seam. Fine georgette fabric, backed with fine net fabric, is with tiny glass beads, and forms the top of the 'bib front'. Fine beading of tiny beads outlines the high round neck. Larger glass beads and silky lace trim the lower 'bib front'. The lg sleeves are gathered lightly at the shoulder, which isoutlined with fine piping. Cut as a straight piece of fabric, a rectangular 'wing effect' at the wrist, is lightly gathered into a 13 cm deep lace cuff, fastening with two metal hooks, and hand-stitched eyes. Clothing. Navy blue silk dress with V neckline faced in soft pink silk, which is overlaid with navy rouleau, giving a ''lattice'' effect, and then the neckline has been bound with navy fabric. The lower edge and side is decorated with three, four-petalled flowers, backed with navy fabric, with navy covered buttons in each centre, and navy tipped, pink rouleau 'stems'. Three X 2 cm diameter navy covered buttons are spaced on either side of neckline. Six X 1cm wide loose pressed(not stitched) pleats and two 2 cm pleats form a panel from neckline to waist of bodice. This pleating continues from the waistline, and is stitched horizontally for 31 cm below the waistline, before falling in a pressed form to the hemline. Back of skirt is plain, with top stitched centre back seam, which opens into a (X2) 5.5 cm wide inverted pleat at centre back. Long sleeves are also pleated-stitched down horizontally, for 17 cms, then pressed(not stitched) to the cuff. Clothing. Four Collars a. Stand-up lace collar with a shallow scallop at the lower neck edge-6 cm -7 cm deep. Three ''stand-up'' flower motifs and other flat floral motifs form the lace. Five boned and wired casings keep the collar erect. At the centre lower edge fine, cotton fabric is gathered tightly and forms a 10 cm long, fan shaped drop or jabot which in turn has a shield shaped crochet drop 12.5 cm deep with corded and cut-work elements. The stand-up collar is lined with fine cotton net, and fastens at the back with three metal hooks, but no loops are evident. b. Very fine creamy silk (?) stand-up collar. 4.5 cm deep, with a 32 cm deep jabot front. The same lace as the collar, edges the Vshaped front jabot. In the centre of this jabot is a stylized maltese cross, which also features at the front of the collar. No fastenings are visible at the neckline. c.This item is of the same design as 14.b, but is slightly larger.Cream cotton or silk, the collar is 6 cms deep at the centre front, and features a Maltese Cross shape at the centre front of the collar, and the jabot front. Ten floral motifs are spaced around the collar, and the same lace outlines the edges of the jabot front. No fastenings are evident. d. Collar. 8.5 cm deep at the centre back, shaped to 6.5 cm deep at the centre front. Jabot 2 cm wide at top, 10.5 cm wide at lower edge, then shaped to a point at the very lower edge. Floral elements and eyelets form the design. Centre back has six eyelets at each edge-perhaps laced to fasten. Clothing. Owners initials prominent on outside. Rectangular in shape, fine grained black leather. The leather forms an external shape, white inside a smaller watermark, black silk pouch has a silver frame and clasp to hold the required items. This is lined with a dark cream watermark silk, and has an outer section with side pocket, containing a mirror, and a smaller inner section divided into purse-like compartments. Each swection has a silver frame and clasp. A small piece of light card -red on one side, and possibly glued as a label on the otherside is the same shape as the handbag, and has printed in capital letters ''NOTE THE POINTS''. This may or may not relate to the bag. The outer leather section is slightly tapered-wider at the bottom, forming slight peaks. The top reflects these peaks, with a 3 cm wide band of leather, shaped wider at the top. 23 cm long at top, 21 cm long at lower edge. Silver metal, upper-case lettering:M-A-B, indicate the owners initials. .7 cm high, 7cm long. Two 1 cm wide, 28 cm long handles complete this stylish bag. Object. Finely tapered wooden cane- .7 cm diameter at base and .9 cm at base of metal handle. The rounded top, forming a handle is metal and while some numbers are visible,I do not think that there is a hallmark to indicate silver No 935 and some indistinguishable letters. The metal extends around the handle and 10.5 cm down the cane. A 2.5 cm wide ''bracelet'' of a different metal encircles the cane, over the top of the darker metal. The cane has a covering of black paint, which is showing wear and tear. The cane has a 2.7 cm metal tip-possibly brass. High stand-up embroidered net collar-close fitting to the neck, and fastening at the back with now 4 metal hooks and loops (one hook missing) and edged at top and bottom with tiny black beads. Five metal ''curved wires'' 7 cm long, are spaced around the up right ''collar'' (to hold in place). The embroidered net forms a V shaped panel at the centre front, and has 15 silk covered oval buttons .8 cm long, from throat to lower bodice. This panel is bordered by embroidered and beaded braid, 7 cm wide and giving a cross-over effect. Cotton tape inside waist 66 cm long fastens with two metal hooks and eyes.Under this lace cross-over, the bodice is shirred and pleated, to give fullness for movement. Pleats are ''caught-in'' at the waistline. An elbow length over-lay of sheer silk fabric, edged with the beaded braid. The sleeves are silk fabric to the elbow, and then narrow in to a three hook plackett at the wrist. This lower sleeve with a 2.5 cm lace frill, and a spotted tulle fabric, and ''dotted'' at the upper side with a double row of tiny black beads. Clothing. Cream polished cotton, full length half slip petticoat. Plackett at the back, fastens with two metal hooks, and hand-stitched loops. The back features a 'crinolette', where two rows of tapes are gathered in to give volume to the back of the garment. As the crinoline started to subside at the end of the 1860's. The centre front panel features 6 angled bands of lace 4.5 cm wide and angled to form a V shape. (1) A 9.5 cm band of pleated linen gauze-like fabric, edged with a 5 cm band of linen lace. (2) A 15 cm double layered frill-top layer 2 cm wide silk like pleats, lined with linen muslin type fabric, and an under frill of polished cotton, pleated in one cm wide knife pleats. The top frill is of fine cream cotton lace. At the top edge is a 3.5 cm wide band of floral cotton lace, and adjoined at the lower edge with a 9 cm deep pleated trim of exquisite cotton "floral and swirls" lace. The top frill is 42 cm wide, and extends over the centre front panel only. A cotton covered " stiffening- possibly bamboo or whale bone, extends 31.5 cm ;long at the crinolette. An unusual 'pocket like bag' is sewn into the right side seam 14 cm below the waist. This has rounded corners, and is 8 cm wide at the top, 17.5 cm wide at the lower edge, which is then rounded slightly. Silver silk, with a jacquard woven floral pattern. Long sleeves have pleated tops, forming a leg-o-mutton sleeve, which gathers in at the elbows, to a narrow fitted sleeve to the wrist. A 4cm wide band of cream satin embroidered and corded lace. Cream cording and lace trims the cuffs, the shoulder/arm hole seam, and two bands on each side of the V shaped cross-over bodice. Metal press-studs fasten the cross over bodice at the waistline. Cream satin with embroidered lace overlay forms a 5cm wide stand-up collar and a centre front panel at neckline. Twelve metal hooks and eyes fasteners fasten the grey cotton front lining of the bodice. The cotton lining of the bodice is part machine, and part hand stitched. Very fine embroidered silk, three tier skirt - silk embroidery in a swirl design, and featuring small tufts of pink silk. Front placket, and narrow 1.25cm tape waistband. Metal hook and eye fasteners, and two metak hooks at back waistband to fasten bodice. Back sweeps into a small train. Two rows of joined lace form three panels from waist to lower tier. This lace also forms two L shaped decorative panels on upper section of skirt. Lower edge of silk lining has a band of stiffening, which then has an 18cm wide band of pink silk lining the hemline. This pink fabric matches the pink tufts on the fine silk outer layer, and possibly protects the finer fabric at the hemline level. Collar extends over shoulders to form imitation collar at back extending to centre back waistline. Centre V shaped insert of pintucked fabric hand stitched in place. Nine fabric encased bones inserted into waistband. Two bones on either side of front of bodice, and one bone on each side seam and three bones across the back of the bodice. Stand-up collar with horizontal pleating (5cm wide). Fastened over left shoulder with three metal hooks and eyes. Long sleeves widening at elbow and gathered onto 25 cm lower sleeve narrowing to wrist. Lower sleeve has three X three groups of horizontal pintucks.
