The Mitcham Football Club was established in 1888. Known as the 'Tigers', their colours are black and yellow and their home ground is at Walker Park, Mitcham. Originally the club played on the Reporter and District League where they won premierships in 1904, 1905, 1914, 1915 and 1921, then in the Eastern Suburbs Football League they won a premiership in 1947. The original Mitcham Station was opened on 25th December 1882. Until the 1970s a shunting yard and goods shed existed where the southern car park is now. Tracks remained embedded in the car park for many years. In 1979 boom gates were provided at both Mitcham Road and Rooks Road. From December 2009 to January 2010 Mitcham Railway Station was used as a bus interchange when the realignment of tracks and construction of a new station occurred at Nunawading. During the Great Depression of the early 1930's, Vermont Football Club merged with Mitcham Football Club for 3 years - 1932 to 1934. Tunstall was originally the name of Nunawading Railway Station. Tunstall opened on 4 June 1888 and was renamed on 1 November 1945. An historically significant advertising map that can be used to ascertain the extent of urban development in 1929 in the areas of Nunawading, Blackburn and Mitcham.A map of Mitcham, Tunstall and Blackburn found on the reverse of a real estate subdivision plan published by R.
