The first newsletter of the Society was issued May 1978 and has been published continuously ever since on a bi-monthly basis. With the cessation of the Shire of Eltham in late 1994, the Society's name was revised to Eltham District Historical Society and this name first appeared with issue No. 103, July 1995. This is the program for the annual sports competition between the RAAF School of Radio, Laverton and the AHQ Survey Regiment, Bendigo. The location of the sports day alternated annually between the two units. The day major sports trophy was the "Large Bone Trophy" and the evening minor sports trophy was the "Little Bone Trophy".Booklet, B4 size, cream covered card, title, badges of RAAF School of Radio and Royal Australian Survey Corps, 30 pages, caricatures for each sport contested. A recording made by H.R.H. Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh for Legacy Week in 1973 so that could be broadcast on TV. 1973 was the 50th Anniversary of Legacy. The text of the Prince's television message is: 'This is the 50th Anniversary of the foundation of Legacy which grew from some 14 members in Melbourne to more than 6,000 throughout Australia and now looks after 85,000 widows and 34,000 children of deceased ex-servicemen. This is a remarkable achievement and I think that Legacy is well known all over Australia for the very valuable work which it does for the widows of ex-servicemen and their children. I think that people have gone off to war and they have sacrificed themselves for things they believe in but they are always anxious, most anxious, about the people that they leave behind - their wives and their children. It's possible, of course, to set cup Government organisation to look after them, and to provide for them, but it needs something more than that. It needs the relationship which has gone because the father is no longer there and this is really the purpose of Legacy - to provide that essential personal element in looking after the widows of the men who went off to war and their children. The first Bank of New South Wales building in Wodonga was located in a small cottage. The branch opened on 7 May 1872. At first it was conducted as an agency of the Beechworth branch. In October 1872 premises in Sydney road were purchased from Mr P. L. M. S. Chauncy for £650. When the bank commenced in the cottage the first account was opened in the name of Hillerman & Co, storekeepers, Wodonga. Another early account was in the name of William Huon, squatter of de Kerilleau, Wodonga. On 9 July 1873, the agency was converted into full branch under the management of Mr. Joseph Belcher. Other early accounts included Cronin & Callaghan, storekeepers; John Bassett Jnr, shoemaker; John Jennings, contractor; Ah Soon, tobacco grower, Kergunyah; John de Corney Ireland, collector of customs; Andrew Kyle, fellmonger; Rowan Lockhead, accountant; Alexander McKay, publican; George Pollard, farmer; Thomas Street, farmer; and Edmund Uren, gentleman, Buninyong. Organisations banking at the branch included Wodonga Building Society, 1873; Wodonga Mechanics Institute 1875; Wodonga Band Fund 1882; Talgarno Athenaeum, 1888; Talgarno Butter & Cheese Factory 1892; Wodonga Federation League 1893; Wodonga Brass Band 1895; Wodonga Benevolent Society 1895; Wodonga Fire Brigade 1897; Wodonga Rifle Club and Wodonga Racing Club in 1899 and Kiewa Polo Club in 1900. There were also numerous lodge and church accounts. The cottage was later renovated with a porch added in 1889 and an extension to the residence in 1898. The original house was eventually demolished to make way for a new bank and manager’s residence in Sydney Road in 1906. That building was again remodelled in 1969. It became a branch of the WESTPAC bank when the Bank of NSW and CBA Bank joined to become the Westpac Banking Corporation in 1982. This pamphlet produced by Major Sam Thompson US Army Engineer Corps on exchange to Australia was published as a guide to AUTOMAP 1, the Army Survey Regiment’s first computer-based map production system. It examined how automation had changed the compilation and drafting phases of the map production process. It attempted to present in a light-hearty story telling style, short and clear description of each AUTOMAP 1 sub-system with photos of staff and equipment, diagrams and humorous cartoons. The cartoonist is unknown. The pamphlet was printed at the Army Survey Regiment, Bendigo Army Survey Regiment pamphlet comprises a manilla card cover printed in colour with 24 pages with photographs in black and white; and descriptions, diagrams, and cartoons printed in colour. It is bounded by two staples on its spine. The coloured pages have been scanned at 300 dpi and are stored on a USB Digital Storage Device. The page images have been converted into a video (.mp4) format and also stored on the USB.
