Demonstrates a conductors communication bell made by or for the Melbourne Cable Tram Operator and then reportedly subsequently used on ESCo No. 12. Brass Conductor Communication Bell, consisting of frame, bell, striker, bell pull section, one nuts and two pins. Cast with the initials "MTO" - Melbourne Cable Tram operator, in one end of the frame. Bell donated, reportedly off ESCo 12. Short bell type. Bell cleaned of grime - 12/2009 See Other Notes. The lady who had this bell, rang the depot sometime in May June, to ask if we were interested in it, yes, said it came from No. 12 in Nerrina, family connection to the people. Yields information about the depot and environs during the reconstruction of the Ballarat tramways and the vacant land to the west of the depotSet of 5 Black and white photo prints from collected negatives of the SEC Ballarat depot building, during refurbishment by the SEC during the mid 1935/1936, taken at the same time as Reg Item 1349. 1350.1 - Depot buildings from Gregory St. on the western side. Shows the whole length of the buildings. 1350.2 - Western side of depot buildings from Gregory St. end, looking towards Wendouree Parade. 1350.3 - Eastern side of depot building from Gregory St. end. 1350.4 - Western side of depot building from Wendouree Parade - shows yard on side which was to become the tennis court. 1350.5 - Office, lockers etc. buildings on east side of depot, from Wendouree Parade, Shows the 'Bundy' clock. A motor bike is parked against the wall. 2nd copy held of 1350.1, 1350.2 and 1350.3 - ex moveable display boards. Colour photocopies laminated of these photographs on display 6/2000 at 02-02-06. Two copies held .3 - Pamphlet, printed and cut for use in trams around passenger hanging rails, titled "Say hello to the new Route 58" - on rear gives the new routes and key changes and what to do if you catch route 8? Two copies held - 2 copies held. .4 - Folded DL size sheet - vertical - titled "Tram Route Guide 8 Moreland to Toorak" with a photo of the Shrine of Remembrance on the front. Dated 02/16 - gives a map of all route stops, zones, estimated frequencies, with notes on night services and Myki. .5 - As for .4, but for route 55, with a giraffe on the front, dated 02/16. .6 - Route 58 guide - pending publication at time of entry. This microscope is thought to be associated with Chemist Erskine Llewellyn of Ballarat. Erskine E. Llewellyn studied Chemistry at the Ballarat School of Mines in 1885. It may also be associated with Palmer's Chemist in Lydiard Street Ballarat. "OBITUARY. - The many friends here and in the surrounding districts will regret to learn of the tragically sudden death of Mr Erskine Llewellyn, who for many years was associated with the firm of A. M. Palmer and Co., chemists, of Lydiard street. For some considerable time Mr Llewellyn had been associated with the U.F.S. Dispensary at North Carlton, and there, as in the case here, by his courtesy and attention to business, he made a host of friends, and his sudden demise will be deplored." Black and white photograph of the Club Hotel on Mount Dandenong Road, East Ringwood. The image was copied from the "Ringwood East Electric Station Estate" land sales brochure dated 1st November 1924. Refer to #5132. The hotel has a long association with the Reddish family, thus given the name of "Daisy's Hotel". Included 2 copies of the photograph. Ryman Healthcare bought the site in 2019, including the garden supply business next door, making up a 2.2ha area. The proposal was for a $220 million retirement village to be built. The location is next to Ringwood Lake with the old hotel being knocked down in the early 2020s.Was item H7 in the previous numbering system. -

Photo shows a person wearing what appears to be a Brisbane tramway cap tying down trolley pole for return trip to City. Comment from Tony Smith of the MTPA, that it could be Travis Jeffery. Email from Len Millar - 7-2-2019 - "As best as I can decipher by enlarging the image, it does look like a young Travis. The long-ish face was my guide. Brisbane hat – and tying a pole down on a service car in busy Toorak Road? Reproduces nine photographs of trams, including cable trams and a ex Melbourne W2 in Denver. In bottom left hand corner is a photo of the intersection of Main and Barkly St. with two Ballarat single truck trams in bound from Mt Pleasant, taken from the Ballarat Fire Station tower in 1971. Also has seven other photo reproductions from the Book itself of various tramway signs. Image is supplied by Randal Wilson in an email of 15/10/2019 Text of email from Randal Wilson of 15/10/2019: Hi Warren We managed to track down a digital version of the photo taken by the late Bill McNiven of the trams on the Mount Pleasant line (page 76 of The Melbourne Tram Book). We contacted UNSW Press, the book's publisher, which provided the following explanation. Apparently, the team there could not find the scan of the slide submitted for the book. However, a member of the team was able to capture a jpg of page 76 of the book. From my recollection of the original photo, the attached image is very close in terms of its reproduction quality.
