ANF: Button - Nurses worth every cent of 8%, Australian Nursing Federation, 1995
This button/badge was made to support a nurses' pay claim that took place over the period of 1994-1995, at which time the Kennett Liberal state government was in power. In 1994, the ANF Federal Executive passed a resolution to seek national pay increases of 8%. At this time, nurses had not had a pay rise since 1991. The Union noted that over the same period Victorian politicians had received 12.9% in pay increases. Workers' inferno: The untold story of the Esso workers 20 years after the explosion, 2018
This book an exposition of a workplace tragedy at an Esso operation (a subsidiary of Exxon Corporation) at Longford, Victoria in 1998. A piece of processing equipment exploded and caught fire. Two workers were killed and many others were injured. The fire burned for two days. Gas supply to most customers (apart from essential services) was cut off for a significant period of time. A Royal Commission was subsequently established, during which Esso sought to minimise its own responsibility for the incident and cast blame upon the individual operators. Clyde was born in Brook Street, Sunbury in 1911. at the time this photo was taken ,Clyde had been living in Sunbury for 83 years. Mrs. Boardman was the midwife. Edna came to live in Sunbury in 1938 and boarded with her uncle, who was the policeman at the time.
