The Central Deborah gold mine, the last to close on the Bendigo field, was purchased early in 1970m by the Bendigo City Council for restoration and preservation as a typical Bendigo gold mine equipped with machinery , most of which was made in Bendigo. The Central Deborah Company was formed in 1939 to deepen an existing shaft sunk in 1912.
