Mission to Seafarers Victoria
Album (item) - Photograph Album, "Snapshots", c. 1950
This album was found with notes and letter from the donor Sadie Wilson a former member of the Ladies Harbour Light Guild and later Flying angels club. An HLG member in the immediate post WW2 period through to the 60s and possibly later, Sadie was recontacted in the early 2000s and participated in a reunion of former HLG members at the Mission. That is likely when she loaned or donated this album to the Mission. Along with her friend Berenice, Sadie also provided reminiscences of the Guild in the documentary "Light Bearers" filmed by Csilla Csongway and Matt Blackwood in 2003.Sadie Wilson's album has assisted with the cross referencing, verification, dating and identification of other images and material in the MTS found Archive. Her reminiscences provide an important rare verbatim insight into the experience of being a member of HLG in the mid 20th C. Photograph, 27 August 2004
This photograph was taken on Friday the 27th of August 2004 as part of an event called 'Direct Seeding Expo'. This event was one of many held by the Wooragee Landcare Group in the early 2000s which aimed to educate the local community on certain agricultural and biodiversity conservative techniques. This particular event took place at the property of Lisa and Marcus O'Connor in Wooragee. This photograph shows a demonstration being given on a Hamilton Tree Seeder (a soil ripper). This machine is used to loosen tough, compact soil in order to prepare it for the planting of seedlings. This photograph is significant as it provides evidence of a project undertaken by the Wooragee Landcare Group in the early 2000s to educate members of the public on alternative and potentially more efficient methods of planting seedlings. Saw Logging, circa early 1900's
This item can be seen as a hand piece belonging to a logger or farmer spanning over one hundred or more years. The equipment was made to perfection as a hand tool and has not been improved upon since its introduction into the logging industry or farming fraternity. It can be used by one person or two (husband and wife or father and child). Its versatility is ageless. It can be used for domestic clearing of the paddocks, or for domestic fire places and stoves or commercial logging up until the 2000s (introduction of specific logging trucks that cut and treat the trees in one process). This item is very significant to the rural and logging regions within the Kiewa Valley. It has been used for domestic wood cutting and for industrial logging in the mid to late 1900s. It was used when clearing land for the SEC Hydro scheme and to allow for the introduction of the Mount Beauty construction workers' village (later developed into the town) The great advantage of this saw was that it uses only muscle power and can be located where ever a lumber "Jack" or property owner can venture. either by foot or by horse. This saw is a Warranted Superior One/Two Man Logging Saw. It has 68 teeth and is 42 inches long. At a position of one inch (2.5cm) from the end is a hole one inch down from the leading edge. There is another hole 45 cm in front of the handle. Both these holes are for a "helper handle" which when in use renders this logging saw fit for a two man operation. This is a cross cut saw for cutting down vertical trees (horizontal cut) The handle is made from wood and fastened to the blade by three heavy duty screws. The one helper handle stands 150mm high and has a 150mm wooden hand grip. The central screw has 25mm manufacturers' identification logo stamped "WARRANTED SUPERIOR".one or two man cross cut saws, forestry, timber industry -

Camera Tele Ektra, Circa 1970s to 1980s
From the 1970's onward the relative isolation of regional areas was improving in "leaps and bounds". Social amenities, and life styles were changing at a great rate. Items such as this camera (recreational/life style/non professional) capture of the altering socio economic balance of rural based activities provided the catalyst for greater appreciation by city dwellers to the benefits of rural life. The greater levels of communicative avenues, especially the visual (photography, pictures, television and the internet), from the beginning of this period and throughout the time frame (1970 to the 2000s) has cut the major restraints of what was rural "isolationism".The significance of this type of camera, being a small two lens (normal, telescopic) and portable piece of equipment, allowed non professional tourists, locals or visitors to visually display the uniqueness of the Kiewa Valley and Alpine regions. This method of promotional and intimate visual reproduction of not only physical but also through personal involvement, of the photographer to the audience, a greater psychological impact, by the nature of intimacy involved. This type of photography is one of the most effective stimuli to promote the unique qualities of the Kiewa Valley region. This Item is dual lens (22mm,44mm) camera comprising of an elongated oblong shape, black hard plastic shell. Kew Historical Society Inc
Photograph, Horse Tram, Boroondara General (Kew) Cemetery, 1910
The Kew Historical Society's postcard collection includes views of Kew, Melbourne and Greater Melbourne as well as those including overseas scenes sent or received from Europe or the Middle East. They date from the 1890s to the 2000s. These postcards may or may not include the name of the publisher or printer. A number of the cards were published as parts of popular series. A way of dating early postcards is to identify whether the reverse was divided by a central line which became the norm after 1902 in the United Kingdom. However, other postcards produced after this date do not always conform to this print layout. The item forms part of the Laurie Bennett collection of thirty-six postcards and photographs of Kew and early Melbourne, donated to the Kew Historical Society in 1980. The postcards in the Bennett collection, like other images in the Society's holdings date from the 1890s to the present and comprehensively indicate points-of-view or scenes considered historically, aesthetically or socially significant in the period in which they were produced.Black and white photograph of the horse tram in High Street, Kew, outside the Boroondara (Kew) General Cemetery.
