This work forms part of the collection assembled by the historian Dorothy Rogers, that was donated to the Kew Historical Society by her son John Rogers in 2015. The manuscripts, photographs, maps, and documents were sourced by her from both family and local collections or produced as references for her print publications. Many were directly used by Rogers in writing ‘Lovely Old Homes of Kew’ (1961) and 'A History of Kew' (1973), or the numerous articles on local history that she produced for suburban newspapers. Most of the photographs in the collection include detailed annotations in her hand. The Rogers Collection provides a comprehensive insight into the working habits of a historian in the 1960s and 1970s. Together it forms the largest privately-donated collection within the archives of the Kew Historical Society.A photographic reproduction of a plan in the Vale Collection of the State Library of Victoria showing William Derricks land in the area bordered by Bulleen Road (High Street); Cotham Road and Union Street. Document - Ann Wines Probate 1904, 1905
Tait collection: item 53 of 62This document gives details of the Will and Probate of Ann Wines, a widow, who died in 1904. She was previously from Woodford but was resident in Warrnambool at the time of her death. She left personal estate to the value of £772 with the chief beneficiary being her daughter, Jane. The Wines family was a well-known one in the Woodford/Mailors Flat areas with Charles and Hannah Wines arriving in the district in the early 1850s. The lawyer involved in drawing up this document was Henry Parrington who was in partnership with Jabez Higgins in the 1880s and 90s and from 1900 to 1901 in partnership with John Tait. From 1901 on Henry Parrington had a legal practice on his own account. The legal practice was in Kepler Street. Parrington died in 1926. This document was passed down to successive lawyers occupying the Kepler Street law premises and located there in 2014. This document is of some interest as it gives details of the Will and Probate of Ann Wines who was a resident of Woodford (19th century) and later Warrnambool (early 20th century). It will be useful for research. This is a white piece of paper folded in two to make four pages. Three of the pages had ruled margins in red and have handwritten material in black ink. Plate, St Anns Warrnambool, Early to mid 20th century
This plate came from St Ann’s School, Warrnambool. It was probably used in the boarding house section and may have been used for either soup or cereal. St Ann’s School opened in 1872 as St Mary’s Convent of Mercy School, Wyton, with the latter name being the name of the ex-John Ardlie house in which the school was initially established. There were eight foundation Sisters of Mercy. The name changed to St Ann’s Convent School in 1888 and in 1991 it amalgamated with the Warrnambool Christian Brothers College to form Emmanuel College. This plate is an interesting memento of St. Ann’s School in Warrnambool in the mid 20th century. This is a round china plate with a green and yellow band around the inner edge of the plate. There is also the emblem of the school with the name and motto. The plate has a dip or recess in the middle. The china is slightly crazed. ‘St. Anns Warrnambool Omnia Vincit Labor’ st ann’s school, warrnambool, emmanuel college, warrnambool -

Communism in Australia: A complete exposure, Lang, JT, 1944
From the foreword: " ... a factual account of how the Communist Party is undermining the Australian nation. It explains how it is controlled. Its General Staff. Its penetration of the unions. Its sinister influence over the Curtain Government. Its duplicity during the present war. Its wealth. Its tricks and manoeuvres. The Trojan Horse tactic. Its organisation and its overseas bosses." Jack Lang is a former NSW ALP state treasurer and was elected Premier on two occasions. His government was dismissed in its second term by the State Governor due to his defying the Commonwealth Government's financial agreements' legislation. The book is reflective of growing paranoia about the Communist Party in Australia after World War II. Relevant to the history of the Australian trade union movement, government and political parties. Fear around the Cold War and communism contributed to defeat of the Chifley government at the 1950 election.Paperback. Red and white cover.
