Box 438, Canberra City in 1971, 3rd edition with a small corrigenda sheet. Describes Melbourne s tram car fleet. Includes brief description of each type, photographs and a summary history. Has many photographs of the various tramcars associated with relevant text. On front cover, has W7 1010 with green and black banding and price. On page 1 is a map of Melbourne tramways drawn in 1971, but showing abandoned lines as well. Page ii, inside cover, has a list of Traction Publications. Back cover has a end on photograph of SW6 940. Outside of covers is gloss paper. Corrigenda sheet - 85mm sq has been glued inside its own cover. Looks at the basic services, crossing loops, signalling, following movements (Bendigo used a white disc on the tram to indicate a following tram, Ballarat did not use this system), short workings, reversals, observations of actual workings. Includes a map drawn by Keith Kings in 1972. Photo shows one of the A class tramcars, No. 1, originally built for The Prahran & Malvern Tramway Company in 1910-11, then transported to the isolated Footscray System in 1923-24. Most were withdrawn between 1928 and 1931. Possibly at the Ballarat Rd terminus. Also shows the crew, Conductor and Driver in MMTB Uniforms. Yesterday lunch time Margaret/ had three servings of sweets and was coming/ up for one more before I stopped her. We played/ in the snow on Lake Mountain and were/ taken to Steavensons Falls. We are saving/ the Eildon Weir trip to do on our way/ home. I took the girls horse riding and/ for an hour I walked behind and had to/ hit the horses on the rump to make them move./ 7/6 an hour each too.
